A California teacher is under fire after she showed a pro-life video about how babies are killed in abortions.

The middle school teacher, Jenny Thomas of Sutter Middle School in Sacramento, California, reportedly showed a pro-life video produced by the organization Live Action that features pro-life Dr. Anthony Levatino. He is a former abortion practitioner who had a change of heart and became a pro-life doctor.

In the video, Levatino is shown providing an accurate medical description of an abortion and he talks about his own experience as an abortionist and what led him to convert to the pro-life position.

“I looked at the remains of a pre-born child whose life I had ended, and all I could see was someone’s son or daughter,” Levatino says.

But the video is causing considerable controversy any representative of the school district has denounced it as not appropriate. Showing the video is now denounced as being “completely inappropriate,” a school district spokesman told the Sacramento Bee newspaper. The district launched an investigation following complaints from parents.

Here’s more:

The classroom presentation, shown earlier this month, included a music video titled “Can I Live?” in which the artist thanks his mother for her decision to forgo an abortion.

School district spokesman Alex Barrios said Tuesday that the videos are “completely inappropriate for the classroom” and fail to “meet the district’s approved family life and sexuality curriculum.” Barrios said the district “will address this matter with the seriousness it demands.”

Parents told The Bee that the teacher is Jenny Thomas, whose specialty is science. Among their responsibilities, science teachers are tasked with educating students about family life and human sexuality. Parents described Thomas as a good teacher, and said they believed she has never used the videos in previous classes.

The district’s investigation will seek to determine “how this happened,” Barrios said of the presentation.

According to the district’s written policies, family life and sex education classes should “help students understand the biological, psychological, social, moral and ethical aspects of human sexuality and shall comply with the requirements of law and administrative regulation.”

Some parents who viewed the anti-abortion videos after learning about the class presentation said they found them to be disturbing and inappropriate. They reported their concerns to Thomas and to her principal, Cristin Tahara-Martin, two parents told The Bee.

Levatino is a pro-life physician from New Mexico but, before having a change of heart on the issue of abortion he was an OBGYN who also performed abortions. Levatino did as many as 1,200 abortions — some of them after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Then, after his daughter died in a tragic automobile accident, he re-evaluated his position on abortion and stopped doing abortions.

Previously, Dr. Levatino told members of a Congressional committee that they should support a bill sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks that would ban abortions nationwide aft 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Levatino once said that he performed hundreds of dismemberment abortions in the early 1980s. But one day, after aborting an unborn baby this way, he said he became “sick.” He said he thought of his 6-year-old adopted daughter who had died in a vehicle accident not long before. And when he looked at the “pile of body parts” from the baby who he had just dismembered, Levatino said he realized that he was looking at someone’s child.

“That’s what started a cascade, which over the next few months, ended in not doing any more abortions,” Levatino said.

Levatino described a dismemberment abortion as a “brutal procedure in which a living human being is torn to pieces.”
