It’s no secret that big labor unions have long supported liberal causes, including abortion.

A new study by the Center for Union Facts found that major labor unions sent $1.3 billion to liberal and pro-abortion groups over the past seven years.

Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in America, received $1.1 million from the unions, according to the study. Other recipients included the Clinton Foundation at $1.5 million, America Votes at $15.1 million and the Democratic Governors Association at $14.5 million.

“For decades, union officials have exploited working Americans to advance a left-wing political agenda — without their affirmative consent,” said CUF spokesperson Luka Ladan. “Union leadership provides a reliable ATM for the Democratic Party and liberal special interest groups across the country, whether employees agree or not.”

LifeNews has documented similar spending by powerful union groups, including more than $1 million to pro-abortion groups by the American Federation of Teachers. Recipients included Planned Parenthood, NARAL and Emily’s List, all of which support abortion on demand.

In 2015, the Washington Free Beacon reported Planned Parenthood also received money from the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, United Autoworkers Union, Service Employees International Union, and the United Food and Commercial Union between 2010 and 2015.

Commenting at the time, James Sherk, the senior policy analyst in labor economics at The Heritage Foundation, said: “Most union members have no idea that their union donates their dues to the largest abortion provider in America. Federal law does not require unions to get their members’ authorization before spending their dues on controversial causes. Union leaders have wide discretion to spend their members’ money as they like.”

Donations are just one of the ways that unions support the abortion industry. In 2016, several major unions also urged Congress to stop investigating whether Planned Parenthood illegally sells aborted baby body parts. The Service Employees International Union, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, and the Communication Workers of America joined pro-abortion groups in signing the letter to Congress.

Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion business in America, aborting approximately 320,000 unborn babies every year. Its most recent annual report showed a record income of $1.46 billion, with about half a billion dollars coming from taxpayers.
