Cuddles and snuggles literally can’t keep someone alive. But physical touch and emotional support are obviously important for any patient, and the parents of Alfie Evans — especially his mother Kate — have been doing everything they can to make him feel loved and supported.

Earlier today, Tom Evans, Alfie’s father, credited Alfie’s mother with helping Alfie to do so well since his life support was disconnected without their permission. Hearkening back to the kangaroo time or skin-to-skin time that a parent of a newborn child has with their little boy or girl, Alfie’s mother has been doing everything possible to keep that physical connection and touch going with her little boy.

According to Tom Evans, it’s doing a world of good:

Speaking to LBC today, dad Tom said: “Alfie’s fought through the night the last two nights because he’s been lying on her chest nonstop.

“And him and his mum have become closer now more than ever before.

“She’s doing – I’ve got to say, I’m absolutely shocked by Kate. I thought she’d be really broken and absolutely hysterical.

“In fact, she was broken but she was very calm and she dealt with the matter… so well. I’m so lucky I’ve got a partner like her.

“I wouldn’t wish for Alfie to have another mum and Alfie’s so blessed to have her.”

Now, Alfie’s parents want to take their little boy home to provide him with more of that tender love and care.
