Presented as a “choice,” Catherine Templeton knew an abortion was anything but that for her unborn twins.
Templeton, a Republican candidate in the South Carolina gubernatorial primary, released a new ad this week about how she was encouraged to abort one of her twins, The State reports.
“They said we need to do some more tests to determine whether we need to abort one of the children to save the life of the other,” she said in the ad.
But she refused to even consider violently ending one of her own unborn babie’s lives.
“There was nothing else we needed to know,” she continued. “God entrusted us with these children, and they were ours to protect as long as he would allow us.”
Templeton is challenging Republican Gov. Henry McMaster in the primary. McMaster also has a strong pro-life record.
Mothers who are carrying multiple unborn babies often are urged to consider “selective reduction,” or selectively aborting one or more unborn baby, supposedly to reduce the chances of health complications for the mother and other unborn baby or babies.
Several years ago, The Telegraph reported a substantial increase in abortions of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) in the United Kingdom. In 2011, 101 women carrying two or more unborn babies aborted at least one of them, according to UK government health data.

But many, like Templeton, refuse the pressure to abort. Kim and Vaughn Tucci of Australia are another example. In January 2016, Kim gave birth to quintuplets after refusing to selectively abort some of them.
The Tuccis said doctors suggested that they abort as many as three of their five unborn babies.
“I watched a YouTube video on the procedure and I cried, I could never do that! Was I selfish for not giving two the chance of 100% survival?? All I knew is that I already love them and that every heart beat I heard I connect with them more,” Kim Tucci wrote in 2016.
Two years later, all five children – now toddlers — are thriving.
