A Nevada politician recently slammed pregnancy centers that offer women choices other than abortion, contradicting his own “pro-choice” position.
Gubernatorial candidate Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, touts himself as a practicing Catholic and a political moderate. But on Feb. 22, Sisolak made several comments that exposed his decidedly pro-abortion stance.
California Catholic Daily reports, on Feb. 22, Sisolak criticized First Choice Pregnancy Services, a pro-life pregnancy resource center in Las Vegas, as a “shameful group.”
According to the report:
Sisolak’s ire was fired up by a visit to that pro-life help center by Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, a candidate for governor on the Republican Party side.
Sisolak , the chairman of the Clark County (Las Vegas) Commission, fumed that Laxalt’s visit there made plain that his “anti-choice views are beyond the pale.”
Vote for me, Sisolak pleaded to activists, and “I would protect access to women’s healthcare and a woman’s right to choose.”
A woman’s right to choose a pro-life health center, though, would be “beyond the pale,” in Sisolak’s steely gaze.
Even one of Nevada’s biggest news outlets, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, aptly criticized Sisolak for pushing just one “choice” – abortion.
Under the headline “Sisolak, Democrats attack group for helping pregnant women,” writer Victor Joecks commented: “Attacking crisis-pregnancy centers makes it seem as if Democrats see pregnancy as a zero-sum political game, not as a personal decision. If a woman gets an abortion, that’s one point for the left. But if she chooses life for her child, that’s one point for those right-wing religious zealots.”
Sisolak also boasted on Twitter about supporting the largest abortion chain in America, Planned Parenthood. As as single dad, he said he encouraged his two daughters to visit the abortion chain for advice.
His political spiels sound more like talking points taken directly from the abortion industry, rather than the heartfelt beliefs of a Catholic political “moderate.” Tragically, pregnancy centers have become a favorite new target of the abortion industry, which often functions under the guise of being “pro-choice.”
True Catholics believe that every human life, from conception to natural death, is valuable and deserving of protection. And some of the ways they help protect lives is through pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes, homeless shelters and other non-profits that offer true choices to pregnant and parenting moms. These organizations provide the support and encouragement that many women are desperately seeking when facing an unplanned pregnancy. It is these organizations that are empowering women to make the best choices for themselves and their families.
