As pro-abortion as Nancy Pelosi is, she also is not afraid to stand up to the radical pro-abortion lobby.

When NARAL and other pro-abortion groups began demanding that the Democratic Party only support pro-abortion candidates, Pelosi pushed back, saying Democrats can be pro-life.

Then, this week, Pelosi endorsed one of the last pro-life Democrats in the party, U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski of Illinois, according to Mother Jones.

“PELOSI says she supports Dan Lipinski for re-election in Illinois’s 3rd congressional,” Al Weaver of the D.C. Examiner reported Wednesday. He quoted the House minority leader saying, “Yes, I do.”

Pelosi’s endorsement goes against the powerful abortion lobby and her own party.

Though Lipinski is an incumbent who has represented his district for seven terms, the Democratic Party refused to endorse him this year.

Some of the richest, most powerful pro-abortion groups in America, NARAL, Planned Parenthood and Emily’s List, are working to unseat him by backing his pro-abortion primary challenger, Marie Newman. Several of Lipinski’s peers in Congress also endorsed his challenger.

Here’s more from the liberal news site:

Pelosi has shown a greater tolerance for Blue Dog Democrats than others in her caucus have. When progressives criticized the DCCC for refusing to apply a reproductive rights litmus test to 2018 candidates—it never has—Pelosi insisted there was room in the party for anti-abortion candidates. “This is the Democratic Party, this is not a rubber-stamp party,” she told the Washington Post.

Lipinski’s pro-life voting record is the reason he is being targeted. One of his most recent key votes was for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which prohibits abortions after 20 weeks when unborn babies can feel pain. He consistently votes to protect unborn babies from late-term abortions and opposes taxpayer funding of abortions, two issues that are widely popular among Democrats and Republicans alike.

A co-chair of the pro-life group Democrats for Life, Lipinski also spoke at the March for Life in January in Washington, D.C.

Pelosi does not share Lipinski’s dedication to protecting unborn babies’ rights – far from it, she strongly supports abortion on demand – but at least she is willing to acknowledge that many Democrat voters still do.

Democrats for Life estimates more than 23 million Democrats in the U.S. are pro-life. Pew Research found that 28 percent of Democrats say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Marist/KofC polling also found that 23 percent of Democrats consider themselves pro-life and 40 percent say abortion is morally wrong.

Many pro-lifers are leaving the Democratic Party because it has stopped supporting pro-lifers like Lipinski. A Massachusetts mayor recently announced his decision to leave, disgusted by the party’s demand that unborn babies be sacrificed and their deaths celebrated.
