Democrat leaders are pushing the party further into a radical ideology that demands full support for abortion for any reason up to birth
In a scathing but apt criticism of the current party, The Federalist’s Bre Payton described abortion on demand as DNC leaders’ new religion.
“Their objective is no longer to keep abortion ‘safe, legal, and rare,’ but to shout it, to be proud about it, and to kick and scream if their party does not expel pro-life defectors,” she wrote.
The upcoming midterm elections are a perfect example. Party leaders are abandoning a seven-term Illinois incumbent and supporting his challenger instead because of abortion.
U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, one of the last pro-life Democrats in Congress, accurately represents his constituents on the abortion issue. He votes to protect unborn babies from late-term abortions and opposes taxpayer funding of abortions, two issues that are widely popular among Democrats and Republicans alike.
For doing so, he is being abandoned by his own party. Some of Lipinski’s peers in the House are backing his pro-abortion challenger, Maria Newman, who supports late-term abortions and taxpayer funding of abortions. Well-funded pro-abortion groups like NARAL and Emily’s List are backing Newman as well.
Lipinski is not alone. According to the Federalist, the Democratic Party is not backing any pro-life candidates in key districts this fall.
Here’s more from the column:
The party … has no room for those who believe life begins at conception. They’ve expelled nearly all of its representatives who believe life begins at conception and vote accordingly. In Congress, only two Democrats belong to the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus. That’s right, two. And the party is not running a single pro-life Democrat in any of the 91 districts they hope to win over this November. Both of these things are startling given that in 2009, 64 Democrats opposed the Affordable Care Act because they thought it didn’t come with enough restrictions on abortion.
Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), one of these Democratic congressmen who broke rank in 2009, has represented the Third District of Illinois since 2005. His seat is in jeopardy now that he’s being challenged in the upcoming primary by Marie Newman, the darling of NARAL Pro-Choice America, EMILY’s List, Gloria Steinem, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
Later, Payton continued:
Religious people who uphold the biblical teaching (and scientific finding) that life begins at conception are frequent targets of this secular orthodoxy, not just with mean text alerts, but regulatory action. Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services actively sought to punish and even bankrupt The Little Sisters of the Poor, an order of Catholic nuns who serve the elderly, and Hobby Lobby, a craft store owned by a Christian family, for refusing to provide abortion-inducing drugs. These actions sent a message: the only religion you are free to participate in without fear of persecution from a Democratic administration is abortion-affirming secularism.

Democratic Party leaders have been debating whether to stop supporting pro-life Democrats altogether. And Tom Steyer, the single largest donor to the Democratic Party in recent years, said late last year that he will give money only to pro-abortion candidates.
The DNC has adopted an increasingly radical position on abortion. Its 2016 platform calls for full support of abortion for any reason up to birth as well as taxpayer funding of abortions – positions that most Democrat voters strongly oppose.
A Massachusetts mayor recently announced that he will leave the Democratic Party because of its pro-abortion ideology. He joins countless others who have become disgusted by the party’s demand that unborn babies be sacrificed and their deaths celebrated.
Democrats for Life estimates more than 23 million Democrats in the U.S. are pro-life. Last year, Pew Research found that 28 percent of Democrats say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Marist/KofC polling also found that 23 percent of Democrats consider themselves pro-life and 40 percent say abortion is morally wrong.
Polls consistently show that most Americans do not want their tax dollars paying for abortions either. A Politico/Harvard University poll in October 2016 found that a majority of voters oppose taxpayer funding for abortions. Just 36 percent of likely voters supported the issue, while 58 percent opposed it. These findings are consistent with previous polls from various groups.
Most Americans also oppose most abortions and want laws to limit abortions to the first trimester or make them illegal. According to a recent Gallup poll, just 29 percent of Americans want unlimited abortion up to birth.
