The author is unknown: “The worst feeling in the world is trying to hold back a panic attack in public.”
If you are a Democrat in Virginia–or, for that matter, all the Democrats nationwide frantic that Ralph Northam, their pro-abortion candidate for governor in the Commonwealth, is in a nip-and -tuck race against NRLC-endorsed Ed Gillespie–even pretending to hold back a panic attack is proving impossible.
Consider. It was months and months ago that NRL Political Director Karen Cross first quoted Fenit Nirappil of The Washington Post, who wrote of the Gillespie/Northam matchup that it was a “test of swing-state politics in the era of President Trump.”
Well, to be clear, it is not the first such test. There have been five pro-life/pro-abortion contests, primarily to fill seats of sitting congressmen whom pro-life President Trump brought into his cabinet. Guess what? Pro-life candidates have won them all!
They are Kansas’ 4th congressional district, Omaha’s mayoral election, Montana’s at-large special election, South Carolina’s 5th congressional district, and Georgia’s 6th congressional district.
In Virginia’s gubernatorial contest, Northam jumped off to a good size lead, which has totally vanished. But “momentum” doesn’t vote. Men and women do.
Maria Gallagher, in a separate post today, quoted political analyst Larry J. Sabato who once said, “Every election is determined by the people who show up.” Meaning even if the momentum appears clearly to be on Gillespie’s side going into tomorrow’s election, turnout will decide who succeeds pro-abortion Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
Two quick concluding thoughts. First, it’s not just that pro-abortion Democrats are oh for five against pro-life Republicans. Those setbacks took place before the party’s currently unraveling began its current breakneck pace.
It is impossible to exaggerate the significance of former interim Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile’s new book (excerpted in POLITICO) where she laid out chapter and verse how the DNC sold its soul to Hillary Clinton long before she had secured the party’s presidential nomination. The DNC did so, not just because they were in the tank for Hillary Clinton, but also because they were deeply in debt.

The fractures, already obvious going back to the middle of last year, are only widening.
Second, there is just a hint that perhaps former President Obama’s endless supply of media sycophants may be getting the point which we, along with hundreds of others, pointed out years ago. Here’s how Mark Shields put in on PBS’s NewsHour week-in-review segment:
But I will say this, that it’s proof, more than anything else, to me of how little Barack Obama cared about the Democratic Party or about politics. He was great at getting elected. He got a national majority twice in a row. Nobody had done that since Eisenhower. He was leaving the party $24 million in debt, therefore, vulnerable to Hillary Clinton’s coterie of big givers. Bernie Sanders didn’t have big givers, as we know.
It wasn’t just Mrs. Clinton’s limitless access to big givers. She was also the party’s establishment candidate whom Brazile’s predecessor as DNC chair shamelessly favored.
For pro-lifers, the medium-term conclusion is that the Democrats party continues to be in thrall to NARAL and Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, and that is hurting them electorally.
The short-term conclusion is the over-riding importance of voting November 7 in Virginia.
