Looking out for her constituents, Congresswoman Jacki Walorski recently urged state health officials to keep an abortion chain with a shoddy reputation from opening a new facility in South Bend, Indiana.

Walorski, a pro-life Republican from Indiana, sent a letter to the state Department of Health on Monday, outlining her concerns about the proposed new abortion facility, the South Bend Tribune reports.

Indiana and its leaders have worked hard to make meaningful strides to combat the rate of abortions within the state,” Walorski wrote in her letter. “These crucial gains in protecting the sanctity of life would be undermined should the application receive the state’s approval.”

The Texas-based abortion chain Whole Woman’s Health recently applied to the state for a license to open a new facility in South Bend, according to the report. The new abortion facility would be located at 3511 Lincoln Way W. in an old chiropractic clinic.

The Texas-based abortion chain told Indiana that it does not plan to offer surgical abortions at the facility, according to the Tribune. If its license is approved, it would sell first-trimester abortions using abortion drugs.

Here’s more from the local news:

Members of Pro Choice South Bend said in a statement they were not surprised Walorski was “trying to stir up trouble in South Bend.”

Her letter “demonstrates her disregard for the laws of our state and her lack of compassion for Hoosiers,” the group said.

Jennifer O’Malley, a spokeswoman for the state department of health, said Wednesday the application was being reviewed, but she did not have any more details about its status.

South Bend, the home of Notre Dame University, has been without an abortion facility since 2015 when abortionist Ulrich Klopfer was forced to close. He faced 1,833 alleged abortion violations, including cases of rapes of teen girls that he failed to properly report.

Whole Woman’s Health also has a poor reputation for health and safety conditions. Just this week, the Washington Free Beacon reported on a long list of violations at the abortion chain’s Texas facilities.

Inspection reports show numerous problems with sterilizing and disinfecting instruments that were used from woman to woman. The abortion chain also failed to provide a safe and sanitary environment at many of its Texas facilities, according to the state inspection reports. State inspectors also found rusty spots on suction machines that had the “likelihood to cause infection” and other issues that put women’s health in jeopardy.
