In yet another heartbreaking turn of events, the baby girl of a Michigan mother who sacrificed her life to save her unborn daughter has died.

Life Lynn DeKlyen, of Wyoming, Michigan, died Wednesday evening, just two weeks after she was born prematurely, Wood TV reports.

The family shared the news in a Facebook post:

It is with great sadness and a absolutely broken heart that I tell you Life Lynn passed away last night. Carrie is now rocking her baby girl. I have no explanation of why this happened, but I do know Jesus loves us and someday we will know why. The grief we feel is almost unbearable, please be praying for our family.

Psalms 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever

Life’s mother, Carrie DeKlyen, 37, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer, in April. Not long after that, she and her husband, Nick, discovered that they were pregnant with their sixth child, a baby girl.

WOOD TV reports Carrie refused to participate in a clinical trial that could have prolonged her life because doctors said she would have had to abort her unborn baby. Earlier this summer, she had a stroke and suffered major brain damage; she was in a coma and unresponsive when she gave birth to Life Lynn.

She died on Sept. 9, just two days after Life was born.

Life Lynn was very premature, weighing 1 pound, 4 ounces. Initially, her family said she was doing well in the hospital. However, over the past few days, the family posted messages on Facebook asking for prayers because Life’s condition worsened. They said doctors detected a brain bleed, and her oxygen levels were low.

“Life Lynn is having a rough time right now, her O2 levels are very low and her BP is not good either. Grandma JoJo and Nick are with her now. Please be praying …” they posted Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, the family shared the heartbreaking news that the baby girl had died.

Life and Carrie left behind their husband and father, Nick, along with five children.

“My wife loves the Lord and she loves her children more than anything,” Nick DeKlyen said when Life was born. “It’s painful, but this is what she wanted. She wanted to protect this child.

“We love the Lord. We’re pro-life. We believe that God gave us this baby,” he continued.

Nick previously told People that he is so proud of Carrie, and he is certain that he will see her again one day in heaven.

“Not in this life, but after my time is up I’ll be with her again in Heaven,” he said. “She made the decision to give Life a chance at life. And I couldn’t be more proud.”
