Cecile Richards: If I’m Not “Pissing People Off” Then I’m Not “Doing My Job”

The CEO of the largest abortion chain in the United States says it’s her job to “piss off” people every day.

Cecile Richards, who makes nearly $1 million a year running the “non-profit” Planned Parenthood, seems to be trying every angle to gain support for her abortion business and its nearly half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding.

Last week, the abortion business CEO appeared sweet and homey in a People Magazine feature about her baking skills and her advocacy for the abortion of unborn babies. This week, the liberal women’s blog The Cut showed Richards’ tough side.

According to the blog:

At a private roundtable meeting of women in senior leadership positions at the Planned Parenthood office in Manhattan on Wednesday, the nonprofit’s president Cecile Richards acknowledged that while many people might consider her controversial, she always knew that would come with her job fighting for reproductive rights.

“If you’re not pissing someone off, you’re probably not doing your job,” Richards told the group of 15 women, brought there on behalf of the 92nd Street Y’s Women inPower fellowship program. “Women have got to get a lot more comfortable with people being irritated at us.”

Richards subtly claimed that all women are on her side, but that’s not the truth at all. Women are some of the strongest pro-life advocates in the fight against Planned Parenthood and the rest of the abortion industry.

Last year, the New York Times described the abortion issue as more of a war between women than a war on them, citing polling showing that conservative women tend to be more strongly pro-life than conservative men.

“In other words, conservative women are the most anti-abortion segment of the population, and liberal women are the most in favor of abortion rights. You might say that the more significant difference here is not between men and women, but among women,” according to the report.

Some pro-life leaders, like Abby Johnson and Catherine Adair, once thought Planned Parenthood helped women. But both left their jobs and became pro-life because they saw that the abortion group was hurting women and babies, not helping them.

Interestingly, Richards gave some good advice in her interview with The Cut. The problem is that it goes against what Planned Parenthood actually tells pregnant women every day:

For example, Richards said, self-imposed barriers — when women question their own abilities — impinge on our chances of success.

“Do not ever think there will be a moment in your life where all the stars will align. ‘I have the right degree, I have the right relationships, I have the right clothes.’ That is what holds women back so much,” she said.

… “I almost didn’t interview for this job. I’ve never run anything this big. I had a list of all the things that I didn’t know how to do,” she told the roundtable. Planned Parenthood sees over 2.5 million patients every year at more than 600 health centers across the country, and is currently embroiled in a battle to keep its doors open at all. “But I did it anyway. I went ahead and tried it anyway. If you wait until everything lines up, it’s over.”

Planned Parenthood doesn’t tell that to women. Instead, it prompts them to question their abilities, especially during pregnancy. The abortion industry tells women that they are not capable enough to get a good education or have a successful career while caring for a child; they say their child will keep them in poverty or an abusive relationship, and killing their unborn child is the answer. They do not tell women that there never is a perfect time to have a child, or offer to support and encourage them through pregnancy and parenting.

That’s what pro-lifers do. Thousands of pregnancy resource centers across the country offer the support and encouragement that women and their babies deserve. They tell women that they are strong enough and capable enough to be good moms.

Richards and Planned Parenthood may make good sales pitches, but their actual work is deadly to unborn babies and demeaning to women.
