Cecile Richards: “Planned Parenthood Isn’t the Problem, Planned Parenthood is the Solution”

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards is working hard to boost her abortion group’s image amid numerous scandals and efforts to cut off its taxpayer funding.

On Tuesday, the highly paid non-profit head visited Kingston, New York to host a round-table meeting with local abortion activists and the media, The Daily Freeman reports.

Richards and local Planned Parenthood supporters talked up the abortion chain and claimed that women will suffer if it Congress cuts off its taxpayer funding.

A recent Congressional panel recommended that Planned Parenthood be stripped of its nearly half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding after it found evidence of potentially illegal activity involving the sales of aborted babies body parts. A bill to defund the abortion chain and repeal the Affordable Care Act did not move forward in Congress earlier this year, but lawmakers said they still hope to defund the abortion group in the future.

Richards addressed this in her talk to the round-table Tuesday.

“Planned Parenthood isn’t the problem,” Richards said, according to the report. “Actually, Planned Parenthood is the solution. At a moment in time in which access to affordable high-quality healthcare is timely, it is important because we were able to stop the most recent effort to end access to care at Planned Parenthood, it’s not the last time.”

“Women are very worried about the attacks on their health care, their access to Planned Parenthood, coverage for family planning, maternity benefits, all of the things that are currently at risk in Washington, D.C.,” Richards continued.

What Planned Parenthood is the “solution” to, either Richards did not specify or the report did not mention.

The abortion chain prefers to talk about its non-abortion services because they are less controversial. But it has become very clear that Planned Parenthood is first and foremost an abortion provider. Every year, its facilities kill more than 300,000 unborn baby boys and girls in abortions – approximately one-third of all abortions in the U.S.

A recent offer from President Donald Trump reinforced how attached Planned Parenthood is to its abortion business. Trump offered to support an increase in taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood if it stopped doing abortions, but Planned Parenthood refused.

This offer would have allowed Planned Parenthood to serve even more clients, providing birth control, cancer screenings, STD tests and other services that it says women depend on Planned Parenthood for. With more tax money, Planned Parenthood may even have been able to begin offering mammograms and prenatal care.

Instead, it chose to continue aborting unborn babies.

Data from the abortion group’s own annual reports show a growing focus on abortions and a continued decrease in its non-abortion services. From 2009 to 2014, “cancer screenings” dropped from 1,830,811 to just 682,208. “Breast exams/breast care” fell by more than half, from 830,312 in 2009 to 363,803 in 2014 and Pap smear tests dropped nearly two-thirds, from 904,820 to 271,539. In that same time period, Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers remained steady, hovering at around 320,000 per year.

Planned Parenthood is not the solution for women seeking cancer treatments. It doesn’t do mammograms, and its cancer screenings are dropping rapidly.

It is not the solution for pregnant women looking for prenatal care or information about parenting or adoption resources. A recent investigation by Live Action revealed that prenatal care basically is non existent at Planned Parenthood, and ultrasounds are denied to patients unless they want an abortion.

It is not the solution for victims of sexual abuse either. Planned Parenthood has been caught multiple times failing to report suspected sex trafficking and sexual abuse of minors.

And it is not the solution to women’s health care. Across the country, community health centers outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by more than 20 to 1 and offer more comprehensive health care without doing abortions.

The only “solution” that Planned Parenthood offers to far too many women is to abort their unborn babies, and killing another human being should never be the solution to anyone’s problems.
