Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: Opposing Abortion “Takes Away Women’s Futures”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke out Wednesday in favor of so-called women’s “right” to abortion, stating that women have a right “choose their path, their future,” even if that means ending the life of their child in an abortion.

“When we take a stand against abortion… we are taking away the power of women to choose their path, their future, when, how, (and) with whom to start a family,” Trudeau said, the Indian Express reported. “We can only build a better world, a stronger world with more opportunity for everyone… if women are empowered.”

“For far too many women and girls, unsafe abortions and a lack of choices in reproductive health means that they either are at risk of death or else simply cannot contribute and cannot achieve their potential through education, through involvement in their community, through a broad range of opportunities,” Trudeau continued during a speech on International Women’s Day.

Furthermore, Trudeau’s administration has pledged $650 million in “unallocated funds” to promote and provide abortions not only in Canada, but also in other countries, The Globe and Mail reported. This financial backing from the Canadian government would enable “removing judicial and legal barriers to the fulfilment of sexual and reproductive health and rights” internationally. In other words, the money will be used to pressure countries with pro-life laws to legalize abortion on demand.

“Advocacy is included in our initiative, so yes, we will support local groups and international groups who advocate for women’s rights, including abortion,” International Development Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau told The Globe and Mail.

There are at least 100,000 surgical abortions annually in Canada, resulting in the deaths of 4 million Canadian unborn babies since 1969, according to Campaign Life Coalition. The group cites that abortion is used in lieu of birth control 96 percent of the time, most often affecting the children conceived of unplanned pregnancies.

Adoption is considered in fewer than 1 percent of these cases, though that option grants life to the child if the parents cannot provide the care the child needs and deserves, Campaign Life Coalition continued.

“What these pro-abortion judges admitted, is that more than 100,000 abortions are committed in Canada, plus 1 million in the USA, not to protect ‘the life and health of the mother’ but rather, to protect our contraceptive lifestyle. To ensure that sex without responsibility continues to be available,” according to the Campaign Life Coalition’s website.

Not only does such legislation not protect the life and health of the mother, it does nothing to protect the life and health of an unborn child who dies in nearly 100 percent of cases. Abortion often also involves pain and suffering for the mother for years to come.

Trudeau is wrong. Having a child does not deny a woman a future. Abortion, however, ultimately denies a future to men and women of future generations before they are born.
