The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday approved the nomination of Pro-Life Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions.

Sessions is President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general and he has a 100% pro-life voting record and a history of strong opposition to abortion and the Roe Supreme Court case.

Republicans and Democrats split their vote and Sessions was approved by the committee in a 11-9 party-line vote wit  only republicans supporting him and only Democrats voting no. The vote was previously scheduled for Tuesday, but Senate Democrats deployed an obscure rule to delay the vote 24 hours.

As one report notes there were fireworks before the vote:

During Wednesday’s meeting, Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, appeared to get into a fight over Sessions’ record. Franken was given about 22 minutes to speak after not being able to the day prior, and he took the time to criticize Sessions’ record as well as the prior day’s remarks by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

Franken defended his remarks to Cornyn by saying Cruz did the same thing and was not objected to.

“It would be a decent and honorable thing to do to do it in the senator’s presence,” Cornyn said, to which Franken replied: “Well, get him here.” Cruz eventually did show up to the hearing, though after Franken’s comments.

During his confirmation hearing today before the Senate Judiciary Committee, pro-life Senator Jeff Sessions reiterated his belief that Roe vs. Wade is one of the worst Supreme Court decisions of all time. Roe allowed virtually unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy.

Previously, Sessions said: “I firmly believe that Roe v. Wade and its descendants represent one of the worse, colossally erroneous Supreme Court decisions of all time.  It was an activist decision…it was a Court that decided to politically impose their will.”

“Good law should prevail,” the Senator noted.  “Our policies in this country as a nation should focus on life, should focus on decency, and focus on love for even the least of these.”

During questioning, pro-abortion Senator Dianne Feinstein ashed Senator sessions if you still felt that way and he replied in the affirmative.

“You have referred to Roe v. Wade as, quote, one of the worst, colossally erroneous Supreme Court decisions of all time, end quote,” Feinstein said. “Is that still your view?”

“It is,” Sessions replied. “It violated the Constitution, and really attempted to set policy and not follow law.”

Leading pro-life groups support Sessions.

Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews: “Senator Jeff Sessions is a principled pro-life advocate who will bring a lifetime of experience to the role of Attorney General. He will enforce the law and defend the Constitution and fight for the constitutional right to life of every American, including the unborn, and for the civil rights and human dignity of every person, ” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List. “For eight years the Obama Justice Department, blinded by their pro-abortion bias, has failed to investigate the negligence and abuse endemic to the abortion industry. No more. As Attorney General, Jeff Sessions will hold the corrupt abortion industry accountable, protect conscience rights, and defend laws that save lives. We urge the Senate to confirm him without delay so the Justice Department can get to the important business of protecting the constitutional right to life of all Americans, especially the most vulnerable.”

Senator sessions has a 100% pro-life voting record according to the National Right to Life Committee and has consistently voted for pro-life legislation and in opposition to taxpayer funding of abortions. He also voted to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion company and opposes the Roe v.Wade — the Supreme Court ruling that allowed virtually unlimited abortions.

Previously, Sessions pleased pro-life advocates when he came out in opposition to the nomination of proportion Sonia Sotomayor, Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.

Sessions said at the time that he he can’t vote for Sotomayor and cited her penchant for judicial activism. Sessions says he doesn’t think she will be able to get away from it should she become a member of the high court.

“I don’t believe that Judge Sotomayor has the deep-rooted convictions necessary to resist the siren call of judicial activism. She has evoked its mantra too often,” he concluded.

Sessions led the filibuster of Obama’s first pro-abortion judge, David Hamilton and said Hamilton should be opposed in part because of his pro-abortion views.

Sessions noted how Hamilton kept an informed consent measure from being enforced in Indiana, thereby prohibiting women from getting information about abortion’s risks and alternatives so they can find positive alternatives.

“And for seven years, through a series of rulings, Hamilton kept it form being enforced. This case is a blatant example of allowing personal views to frustrate the will of the people and the popularly elected representatives of the government of Indiana,” Sessions said. “This appeared to me to be obstructionism.”

Sessions was named an honorary chair of Americans United for Life’s 40th anniversary gala and said, “It is well and good to celebrate forty years of faithful service to the highest and best ideals of the American Nation.”
