“Louisiana Right to Life congratulates John Kennedy on his election to the U.S. Senate,” said Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life. “John has been clear about his pro-life position from day one of this election. He made strong commitments through his questionnaire responses, both to Louisiana and National Right to Life. We look forward to his pro-life votes in the U.S. Senate to confirm Supreme Court Justices, defund Planned Parenthood, protect unborn children, and more. We are thrilled that Louisiana will continue to have two pro-life U.S. Senators in Washington D.C.”

Kennedy’s victory over Democrat Foster Campbell means there will be 52 Republicans in the Senate, come January. Incumbent Sen. David Vitter chose not to run for a third term.

Clapper also applauded the victory Saturday of Representative-elect Mike Johnson in the 4th Congressional District over Marshall Jones. “Mike is a proven pro-life leader that has a bright future in Congress,” Clapper said. “We are looking forward to working with him to advance a pro-life agenda in Congress.”

Pro-lifers also won in the 3rd Congressional District, completing the sweep. “We commend Representative-elect Clay Higgins on his election,” Clapper said. “We are optimistic that Clay will serve as a solid pro-life vote in Congress.” Higgins defeated Scott Angelle.

There were two congressional vacancies because Rep. Charles Boustany and Rep. John Fleming unsuccessfully sought the Senate seat instead of running for re-election.

Clapper put Saturday’s trio of victories in the larger context.

“The election results, together with the November outcomes, shows again that the pro-life issue is important to Louisiana voters,” he said.

“We thank these voters for remaining committed to electing candidates for office that are proudly pro-life.”
