An Australian man who admitted to raping his daughter and then coercing her into having an abortion was sentenced to 16 years in jail on Thursday, according to the Illawarra Mercury.
The man plead guilty to sexual assault charges involving more than a decade of abuse to his teenage daughter, and a judge sentenced him on Thursday in Illawarra, a region of New South Wales, the report states. The man also plead guilty to sexually abusing two of his siblings in the 1980s.
The man, who is not named in the report, admitted to sexually abusing his daughter for about 11 years starting when she was 14 years old, according to the report. The abuse began when the young teen moved in with her father after having a falling out with her mother, according to court testimony.
Judge Andrew Haesler blamed the man for abusing his daughter when she went to him for support.
“She came seeking help, shelter and support from her father,” Haesler said. “[But] from then until the time of his arrest in 2014, she was subject to abuse and a gross breach of the trust that every daughter must have in her father and every father must show to their daughter.
“From day one he manipulated her by physical and psychological coercion,” the judge added.
The man’s daughter became pregnant at one point, and he and his then-girlfriend organized for her to have an abortion, the report states.
The daughter told the court that she did not report her father’s abuse because she was afraid of getting hurt even more and losing her family.

Sexual abuse and abortion frequently are connected. A 2014 study published in PLOS Medicine found that 25 percent of women who had abortions faced some sort of abuse beforehand, either physical, sexual or emotional abuse.
Sometimes abusers also use abortions to cover up their crimes, making unborn babies second victims in a number of sexual abuse cases.
In an Ohio case, a 22-year-old soccer coach was convicted of sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl on his team, LifeNews reported. According to reports, he statutorily raped the girl; and when she became pregnant, he took her to Planned Parenthood to abort their unborn baby and cover up what he had done. The Ohio Planned Parenthood also faced a lawsuit for failing to report the sexual abuse of the young girl.
In an Arizona case, officials said another Planned Parenthood center failed to provide the proper report to authorities about a victim of a young man accused of being a serial rapist. Not only did Planned Parenthood fail to report the rape but, in so doing, it allowed the rapist to rape 18 or more teenage girls, authorities said, making it so the abortion company is partially responsible for victimizing them as well.
Planned Parenthood abortion clinics have come under fire numerous times for not reporting cases of statutory rape to authorities as required by state law. In September 2015, Alliance Defending Freedom released a report cataloging multiple instances of Planned Parenthood performing abortions on sexually abused minors and failing to report the abuse to authorities as required by law. Affiliates of Planned Parenthood Federation of America instead accepted money for the abortions and allowed the rapists to roam free without any notification to the proper authorities.
