Fewer Arizona women are getting abortions! The latest numbers show 245 fewer babies were aborted in 2015 than the year prior. This continues a downward trend from the high in 2011 of 14,401.

The Arizona Department of Health Services’ annual report shows a total of 12,655 abortions in 2015 – down 12% from 2011, the first full year of reporting.

“The fact that fewer women are getting abortions almost every year is extremely encouraging,” said Cathi Herrod, president of Center for Arizona Policy. “Whether it is because more women are choosing life, or it is due to other factors, I celebrate each life saved.”

“Still, I am painfully aware of the more than 12,000 that never took a breath this year. In addition, the numbers show 36% of those abortions were chosen by women who had abortions in the past. This shows we have to do more to help women in those situations.”
