Live Action’s newest video project is exposing more of Planned Parenthood’s lies.
As much as the abortion chain promotes abortion among its friends, it knows that most Americans are morally troubled by abortion. The fact that Planned Parenthood does about one third of all abortions in the U.S. is a “public relations problem,” the Live Action video says.
To appeal to the general public and justify the millions of taxpayer dollars it receives, Planned Parenthood uses clever statistical manipulations to claim that abortions are only 3 percent of its overall services. The Live Action video debunks this claim.
“Even the Washington Post and Slate.com have called out the abortion chain for its deception,” said Lila Rose, president and founder of Live Action. “Three percent is not a real number, but over 320,000 abortions a year and a 30 percent market share of all U.S. abortions are.”
The deception becomes apparent just by dividing the number of abortions by the number of patients the group sees every year. Using numbers taken from Planned Parenthood’s annual report, the video explained that one in eight of its patients gets an abortion.

“To justify its half billion dollars in taxpayer funding, Planned Parenthood downplays abortion – falsely claiming that it only makes up three percent of its business – and instead plays up its cancer screenings and so-called ‘women’s health care,’” Rose said. “However, Planned Parenthood’s own numbers prove it’s an abortion corporation focused on abortion, not on women’s health care.”
The services that Planned Parenthood likes to talk about publicly, such as pap tests and breast exams, make up less than 2 percent of the market share nationwide, according to the video. In contrast, the abortion chain performs almost one third of all abortions in the U.S. That’s one abortion every 97 seconds, or about 320,000 every year, according to its annual report.
Live Action broke down the numbers:
- Planned Parenthood’s U.S. market share for Pap tests is 0.97%. It performed 271,539 tests in fiscal year 2014-15, out of 28.1 million tests nationwide (source)

“It’s easy to see where Planned Parenthood’s priorities are,” according to the video. “They commit 160 abortions for every one adoption referral.”
Rose said they created the video as an educational tool to expose one of Planned Parenthood’s “biggest lies.”
“Planned Parenthood is spending the most it ever has — and double what it spent in 2012 — to influence this year’s election. Citizens have a right to know the truth behind an organization that has their politicians’ ears,” Rose said.
