Texas Alliance for Life (TAL) will present Texas Governor Greg Abbott with their prestigious award for his “Courageous Defense of Life” at their 2016 Annual Benefit Dinner. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the Hilton Austin. As many as 1,500 people are expected to attend.
Long a defender of the unborn, Governor Abbott has led the fight for Texas and the nation in protecting innocent life, improving health and safety standards for women, and promoting adoption as a loving alternative to ending life.
“As Governor of Texas, I am fighting to protect the sanctity and dignity of all life in the Lone Star State. My LIFE Initiative includes several measures to make Texas an even more pro-life state, and I want to thank the Texas Alliance for Life for their strong support. Challenges in the defense of life continue, but together we can overcome those challenges and make Texas safe for the unborn and their mothers,” said Governor Abbott.
“We are honored to have Governor Abbott join us as our special guest at this year’s benefit dinner,” said Joe Pojman, Ph.D., executive director of Texas Alliance for Life. “For several years now, the pro-life spotlight has been centered on Texas, and not by accident. Governor Abbott’s leadership on the life issue has been invaluable. We look forward to recognizing him with our Courageous Defense of Life award.”
Governor Abbott has a long record of success during his time in public office. As a member of the Texas Supreme Court, he defended a strong interpretation of the state law that requires abortion doctors to notify parents before performing abortions on their children.
As the Attorney General of Texas, he successfully defended numerous state laws and policies against court challenges, including the sonogram law, defunding Planned Parenthood, and increased safety standards at abortion facilities. in 2015, Governor Abbott presided over a sensational legislative session with the passage of five major pro-life bills, continued defunding of Planned Parenthood, and increased funding for compassionate alternatives to abortion.
