Abortion Groups Claim Pro-Life Senator Hates Women With Cancer Because He’s Pro-Life

Planned Parenthood has joined forces with the pro-abortion group Emily’s List to attack U.S. Senator Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania.

The two groups created ads targeting the pro-life Pennsylvania Senator on his voting record regarding what they call “women’s healthcare” – a code phrase for abortion.

The Hill reported on the incident: “The ad buy from Emily’s List is $1.1 million, and its TV spot will air on broadcast and cable in the Philadelphia media market. Planned Parenthood Votes & Action Fund’s $250,000 ad buy is a digital ad that will also run in Philadelphia. The ads will run from Thursday until July 13.”

The TV spot “Alive” features breast cancer survivor Mary Lou Magyarits, who explains the importance of screenings in order to detect cancer early. She goes on to describe being “outraged” at Toomey’s voting against funding Planned Parenthood.

The attack is ironic given that Planned Parenthood does little for women with breast cancer. Its main “service” is abortion. The abortion business has been caught lying about providing mammograms, and its own annual reports show its non-abortion services, like breast exams and cancer screenings, are declining while its abortion numbers remain steady. In voting to defund Planned Parenthood, Toomey actually voted to support women’s health care by redirecting the taxpayer dollars to community health centers that provide real health care services, such as cancer screenings and mammograms, to women and their families.

However, Jessica O’Connell, Emily’s List Executive Director, spun the vote as an attack on women.

“Pat Toomey opted to shut down the government to defund Planned Parenthood, which only shows just how far he’s willing to go to drive his dangerous, out of touch agenda,” she said. “Pennsylvania women can’t afford to have a Senator who is so reckless with their health care and the country’s economy, and we’re committed to send Pat Toomey packing in November.”

Planned Parenthood Votes Executive Director Deidre Schifeling said in a statement that Toomey “has systematically worked to block women from accessing birth control and cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood health centers.”

Toomey’s campaign responded to the ads. His spokesman Ted Kwong stated: “Pat Toomey has worked to improve access to women’s health care, but what he cannot support though is providing taxpayer dollars to an organization like Planned Parenthood, which has shown a horrific lack of regard for human life.”

Toomey is an incumbent running against pro-abortion Democrat Katie McGinty. A new poll that Quinnipiac University released Wednesday showed Toomey leading by 9 points.

Pro-life senators like Pat Toomey are essential to passing life-affirming laws. This is why pro-abortion organizations fight so fiercely to silence them.
