Shocking 911 Call: Baby Born Alive After Abortion, “The Fetus is Breathing, We Can’t Provide Care”

A news station has uncovered shocking new audio evidence about a baby who was born alive at a late-term abortion facility in Phoenix, Arizona.

In February, Pro-life Arizona reported learning that a city fire department transported a baby from the Family Planning Associates abortion clinic on North 7th Street to the Banner University Medical Center.

“The baby was reported to be 21 weeks along (gestation) to the termination clinic, but when they removed the baby from the mother’s womb, the ‘fetus’ was breathing. A 9-1-1 call was made from clinic staff, firefighters responded and worked … to save the babies life,” according to the group’s Facebook page. The baby later died at the hospital.

New 911 audio files, obtained by NBC 11 Alive, confirm that the abortion clinic staff saw that the baby was alive and breathing before it died. Reports do not indicate whether the baby was a boy or girl.

Here is more from the report:

In the 911 calls, a clinic worker told the dispatcher a fetus that was removed had vital signs.

“There was a termination that was performed,” the worker said. “There is a fetus that is breathing right now, so we need someone to do services.”

The 911 operator asks if the fetus has been harmed in any way.

The worker answered no, and said the fetus needed further help other than what the clinic could provide.

“The fetus is breathing so we need care for it now,” said the caller. “We can’t provide that care except for oxygen and we’re trying to keep the fetus stable until someone arrives.”

Federal law states that a clinic has to provide medical care to a baby who survives an abortion.

That was the case in this incident.

“Nobody did anything wrong,” said Kat Sabine, Executive Director of the Arizona chapter of NARAL Pro-Choice America in April when she spoke with 12 News.

“Absolutely nobody did anything wrong. The doctor, in fact, did everything right,” said Sabine.

Earlier reports revealed that an abortion center nurse saw the baby move more than 10 minutes after it was born, according to KPNX 12 News. When the nurse took the baby to weigh it on a scale, she said she saw it move and struggle to breath, according to the report. “Oh my God, this fetus is moving,” she said, according to police.

Police speculated that the baby possibly moved because it felt the cold metal of the scale. However, the abortionist, Eleanor Stanely, appears to have believed the baby was already dead. She told police that she had given the mother medication to induce miscarriage (abortion). On the day of the abortion, she said she checked for the baby’s heartbeat several times but did not detect one. The baby reportedly died not long after being transported to the hospital.

After learning of the incident in February, pro-lifers organized a prayer vigil for the baby outside the hospital, LifeNews reported. They named the baby Chava, which is Hebrew for “life.”

According to the investigation, the baby’s mother was 27 years old and has five other children.

Police closed the investigation without filing any charges, saying the baby was not viable and the abortion clinic followed proper procedures, LifeNews reported. Arizona law requires abortion facilities to provide medical care and treatment to infants born alive at any stage of development. Authorities did not perform an autopsy because the baby’s death was due to known circumstances, according to KPNX.

The abortion clinic appears to be the same one that Live Action exposed in a undercover investigation in 2013. Live Action released an undercover video showing Phoenix, Arizona-based late-term abortion doctor Laura Mercer and an abortion center counselor saying they would leave a newborn, struggling for life after a failed abortion, to die.

When asked by the undercover investigator what would happen if the baby were to survive the abortion, Linda, an abortion center counselor, admits they would not help the baby:

Sometimes they are [alive], yeah. But it doesn’t–it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will come out whole. ‘Cause they use suction, plus they use instruments so sometimes the fetuses don’t come out–you know, it’s not complete…

Investigator: But if it does come out wholeI mean, are–will they resuscitate it? Like, will I have to take care of it?

Linda: Uh-uh… No…They do not resuscitate.

Based on the abortion clinic’s website, it appears that Mercer no longer works there.

Though abortion advocates deny that babies survive abortions, LifeNews has documented dozens of cases of babies who were miraculously born alive after failed abortion attempts. Abortion survivors Melissa Ohden, Gianna Jessen and Claire Culwell are just a few examples. The three women are strong pro-life advocates who speak across the country about how their lives are valuable, even though they almost were killed in the womb by abortionists.

Federal government reports also indicate that a number of babies survive failed abortions. In 2011, the CDC recorded 1,298 cases of infant death in the U.S. due to “Other perinatal conditions,” which includes ICD-10 category P96.4, death subsequent to a failed “termination of pregnancy.”

However, the abortion industry continues to fight against a federal bill, the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, that would ensure babies who survive abortions receive equal protection under the law.
