Investigators now say they are certain that a popular Indian actress aborted her unborn baby just two months before she allegedly committed suicide in her home in Mumbai, India.

Police said they have not found any reasons to think Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide is linked her abortion, according to The Indian Express. But it is difficult to tell for sure. Suicide and abortion frequently are connected.

“The abortion is not our line of investigation. There were several stressors on Banerjee’s that led her to take the extreme step,” police said.

The 24-year-old actress reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself on April 1 in her home in Mumbai. She was popular on numerous TV shows in the Asian country. Some believe her troubled relationship with her boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh, may have been a factor in her death.

According to new reports, doctors at JJ Hospitals confirmed that Pratyusha was pregnant and had an abortion two months before her death.

The entertainment website Bollywood Life reports more:

Also an investigator confirmed that Pratyusha’s boyfriend accepted that she had done an abortion, “The preliminary inquiry has revealed that Banerjee underwent a legitimate abortion. Her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh informed us that he went along with her to a Goregaon- based gynaecolgist for the abortion, two months before she took her life. Singh claimed the duo took the decision together as they were not equipped financially to have a child at that moment. We have corroborated Singh’s statements with the gynaecologits’s and also have a copy of the medical records”.

Other news reports have confirmed that Banerjee did indeed have an abortion using the dangerous abortion drug, though there is conflicting information about her boyfriend’s involvement:

In a shocking revelation, the doctors of JJ Hospital, Mumbai, have apparently said that late TV actor Pratyusha Banerjee was pregnant and had probably undergone an abortion a few days before she allegedly hanged herself on April 1.

According to reports, Pratyusha conceived in the month of January and underwent abortion in the first week of March after consulting a doctor. The pregnancy was terminated through oral pills. Though Rahul was aware of Pratyusha’s pregnancy, he did not accompany her to the doctor at the time of abortion.

The revelation was made on the basis of a histopathological examination of tissues from her uterus.

“The findings showed that there was a conception a few days or a month before her demise, and there was a premature death of the foetal cell. The products of conception, or the placental or foetal tissue in the uterus found following delivery, termination of pregnancy or a miscarriage, were infected and degenerated. That usually hints towards a secondary infection, probably occurring due to an attempt to terminate the pregnancy,” The Times Of India quoted a source close to the investigation as saying.

In the past few months, LifeNews has reported several cases of women who allegedly committed suicide soon after they aborted their unborn babies.

Jiah Khan was a British Indian actress who appeared in Bollywood films and received numerous awards for some of the top-grossing films of the genre. None of the success, however, could overcome her guilt after her abortion and, in 2013, she was found dead in her apartment in her residence in the Sagar Sangeet building in Juhu, Mumbai after hanging herself.

In March, LifeNews reported a 15-year-old British girl named Ashli Blake committed suicide after her mother pressured her to have an abortion. After the abortion, her boyfriend reportedly made fun of her, even sending her a mock Mother’s Day card.

Earlier in April, LifeNews reported another abortion-related suicide involving a 21-year-old who hung herself after having an abortion and listening to the song “Little Bump.”

One study published in August 2003 edition of the British Medical Journal found that women who had abortions were seven times more likely to commit suicide than women who gave birth. A 2011 study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry also found that 10 percent of mental health problems among women, including 35 percent of suicidal behaviors, may be attributable to abortion.

Abortion activists say abortions can help women in difficult situations find peace of mind, but these studies point to the exact opposite. Even a pro-abortion researcher, Professor David Fergusson, concluded in a 2008 study that having an abortion did not reduce women’s mental health risks. Further, women carrying an unwanted pregnancy to term did not experience a significant increase in mental health problems, according to the study.

“In general, there is no evidence in the literature on abortion and mental health that suggests that abortion reduces the mental health risks of unwanted or mistimed pregnancy,” the authors wrote. “Although some studies have concluded that abortion has neutral effects on mental health, no study has reported that exposure to abortion reduces mental health risks.”
