This is one crazy story: A 25-year-old Indian woman went into labor expecting one new child. She had five instead.

The new mother, Manita Singh, was worried about the pregnancy since she gave birth to a stillborn son two years ago, according to Essential Baby. And although all five of her newborn baby girls were born prematurely, the report indicates that they are healthy. They were born on Saturday morning, according to the report.

While taking care of one child is a challenge enough, Manita said she is not afraid of caring for an additional four. Her husband said of the situation: “I am extremely grateful to God for blessing us with not one but five children.”

He told the Times of India: “We were heartbroken when we lost our first child, a son, two years ago. I believe God has compensated the loss. I only hope that they all survive and I can give them a wonderful life.”

The doctor that helped deliver the babies said it is the first time he has ever delivered five babies through normal birth. The babies are currently being cared for in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The parents were surprised at the birth because they could not afford an ultrasound during pregnancy, and did not deem it necessary.

Currently, doctors described the babies as “healthy” and said every effort is being made to make sure they survive.

According to reports, the babies weigh between 1 and 1.5 kilograms (about 2.2 to 3.3 pounds). While they are very small, they have a better chance of surviving now than ever before. A 2015 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that more premature babies born before 27 weeks and weighing as little as a pound are surviving because of modern medical advancements.
