In a new television commercial the Marco Rubio for President campaign released to air in the first presidential battleground state beginning today, the Republican presidential candidate said the abortion issue is not just another political issue. For Rubio, who has a 100% pro-life voting record during his tenure in the Senate, abortion is about the human rights of unborn children
In the ad, slated to air in Iowa, Rubio also says the right to life for unborn children is a fundamental human right given by God, saying “I believe that one of the fundamental rights given to us by our Creator is the right to live.”
Below is the new commercial, provided exclusively first to LifeNews.com and a transcription of what Rubio says about his heartfelt pro-life views:
For me the issue of abortion and life is not a political issue, it’s a human rights issue. I will look for ways to limit the number of abortions in this country, particularly those late-term abortions where children who are viable outside the womb are still being killed.
If I have to make a choice, I am going to choose life. It’s not because I want to tell anybody what to do with their bodies or their lives, but because I believe that one of the fundamental rights given to us by our Creator is the right to live.
I’m Marco Rubio and I approved this message.
The ad’s message of the importance of the right to life of unborn children continues the theme of a speech Rubio gave at a pro-life convention last year, when he said:
“Being a candidate for president, I give a lot of speeches on a lot of issues – and they are all important political and policy issues that confront our country. But the issue we are here to discuss today – the issue of life – is not a political issue, nor is it strictly a policy issue,” he said. “It is a definitional issue – an issue about what sort of society we want to have.”
