In a meeting with Iowa pastors last week, Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio promised that he will never be swayed to support abortion.

“… the issue of life to me is not a political issue. It’s a human rights issue,” the pro-life candidate told the group. “If I were to change my position on those issues or even waver on them, I would now be in direct conflict with my church and I would be in direct conflict with what I teach my children. And at that point, I can tell you then I’ve lost the essence of who I am. So that’s just not going to happen. I feel strongly about those issues especially on the issue of life.”

David Brody of CBN New’s The Brody File reported on Rubio’s comments to evangelical pastors in a closed meeting organized by the American Renewal Project.

Brody reported that there were some concerns among the pastors that Rubio’s campaign accepted money from a major donor who supports some liberal issues; however, Rubio assured the pastors that he will not be swayed by anyone.

“I have never changed a political position for a campaign donor,” Rubio said.

After hearing Rubio’s remarks, Brody said he also felt confident that Rubio will be “solid” on the sanctity of life.

Brody wrote, “…the way Rubio handled the potentially toxic question didn’t just put his deft also political skill on display but it revealed something deeper. He showed these pastors that his core beliefs are strong.”

Earlier this month, Rubio won applause from pro-lifers after he fielded a question on abortion today from a mainstream media reporter attempting to make his pro-life views look extreme. But Rubio turned the question around in an amazing way and used it to highlight Hillary Clinton’s radical pro-abortion views favoring abortion throughout pregnancy without limits.
