Newborn Baby Girl Bludgeoned to Death, Left Outside Apartment Building

Local news in Chicago are reporting about a horrific case of infanticide there, where a newborn baby girl was bludgeoned to death and left ouside an apartment building.

According to the reports, a man visiting his girlfriend was shocked when he discovered what he thought was a naked doll to be the body of a newborn baby girl. The passerby rushed the baby, whose umbilical cord was still attached, inside of the apartment complex and called 911 for help.

Officials with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said the baby ultimately dief of multiple blunt force injuries and they are pursuing the case as a homicide. Police obtained surveillance footage from outside the apartment complex but the cameras were not able to capture an image of the culprit.

Dawn Geras of the Save Abandoned Babies Foundation said she was disappointed that the mother did not take the baby to a safe place to be surrender to authorities instead of beating the baby and leaving her to die.

“They really, really can walk into a safe haven, a hospital, police, or fire station, they can hand over their baby to somebody and walk away,” Geras said. “They’ll be safe and the baby will be adopted and loved and cherished forever.”

The baby was pronounced dead at Weiss memorial Hospital which is less than a block away from the apartment complex.

Police say that when they find the mother she will face murder charges.

Investigators were seen outside the apartment building early Thursday, taking pictures, collecting evidence, and interviewing residents of the building.Detectives reviewed surveillance video from the apartment building, but the cameras were not in the proper position to record the person who abandoned the baby. Police were checking to see if a camera at a nearby school might have recorded any pertinent activity.
