Any man who is pro-life on abortion has probably heard the refrain before: men shouldn’t have a say on what is a “women’s issue.” Never mind that abortion touches the lives of countless men and is a human rights issue anyone should be concerned with because it kills children and injures women and men.
But Claire McCaskill has gone one step further. On a range of issues, the pro-abortion Missouri senator says men should just “shut the hell up.”
“As one of just 20 women currently serving in the Senate, it’s important to me to encourage more women to run for office,” McCaskill says in a video for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” released Tuesday.
“But equally important is encouraging more men to sometimes just shut the hell up,” she adds.
“It’s not that women don’t value your thoughts, it’s just that we don’t value all of them,” McCaskill tells male viewers. “The world doesn’t need your opinion on everything.”
In a tweet, McCaskill says the video is a joke: “It’s a joke silly.” But on abortion, she probably does wish men would shut up so she can keep pushing Planned Parenthood.
