More than 100 volunteers will gather in Memorial Provincial Park across from the Manitoba Legislative Building, in downtown Winnipeg tomorrow to plant 100,000 pink and blue flags.

“The 100,000 small pink and blue flags represent the approximately 100,000 human lives ended by abortion every year in Canada. Every flag is a testament to a little girl or boy who was denied a welcome into our nation,” said Mike Schouten, director for WeNeedaLAW.ca.

The WeNeedaLAW.ca campaign is currently spearheading lifeTOUR, a cross-country speaking tour during Election 2015. The focus of lifeTOUR is to build support for three specific laws that would begin to implement some legal protections for pre-born humans.

“It has been one year since we launched our first flag display. In the past twelve months it has been used in various forms over 30 times,” said Schouten.

“Canada affords no legal protection for children in the womb, at any stage of pregnancy. This means that pre-born girls are targeted for abortion simply because they are female. It also means that there is no justice for pre-born victims of crime,” continued Schouten.

“This puts Canada in only the company of North Korea and China. We are calling upon a newly elected government to act quickly in passing legislation that puts us closer into line with every other democracy in the world.”

This flag display is the second one to be hosted by the lifeTOUR team on their 4 week tour. LifeTOUR team members and local volunteers will be engaging with passersby for the duration of the day until the display is taken down at 4:00pm.
