Colorado Legislators Demand Health Dept Investigate Planned Parenthood Selling Aborted Babies

In August, Colorado Rep. Dan Nordberg (R-HD 14) sent a letter to Dr. Larry Wolk, the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), requesting an investigation of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM) regarding their participation in the harvesting and sale of aborted babies’ body parts. In total, 33 Colorado lawmakers signed Rep. Nordberg’s letter to Dr. Wolk.

However, CDPHE responded and said they could not launch a state investigation into PPRM because they did not have raw footage of the undercover video released by the Center for Medical Progress. Today, in a press release, Alliance Defending Freedom, the legal group representing the legislators, argued that their response was absurd. They also sent CDPHE a letter and gave them the information they requested even though it was already available.

ADF Senior Counsel and former U.S Attorney Michael Norton, said, “No organization that traffics in the hearts, lungs, heads, and livers of unborn babies is entitled to taxpayer dollars. The only thing it’s entitled to is an investigation. The response that the Department of Public Health and Environment offered to these legislators was absurd, but we are happy to assist them and to provide the departments with what they think they need, even though the footage they want has been publicly available on the Internet for quite some time.”

He added, “Colorado officials should not further delay an investigation of this scandal-plagued enterprise, especially in light of the legitimate request of these representatives of concerned Coloradans.”

The letter from Norton to CDPHE read, “I am quite sure you will conclude, after you review the transcript and ‘full, unedited, and raw footage’ of the CMP video, that further action is indeed warranted. This further action should include a serious investigation of Planned Parenthood’s abhorrent practices of trafficking in body parts of unborn babies and the immediate suspension of all payments of State taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood.”

In July, multiple videos surfaced showing Planned Parenthood executives negotiating the sale of aborted babies, admitting to using partial-birth abortions to supply intact body parts and taking steps to cover it up. In the fourth video, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains’ Vice President and Medical Director, Dr. Savita Ginde, meets with actors posing as buyers from a human biologics company to discuss a potential partnership to procure fetal organs.

Previously, the Associated Press reported that the spokesman for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Mark Sally, said the agency does not plan to investigate PPRM because of “the ongoing congressional investigation.”

Rep. Nordberg responded and said, “Planned Parenthood is not above the law.  The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has a duty to enforce state statutes and I expect them to do their job, regardless of any congressional investigation. A civilized society cannot allow unethical and illegal medical practices such as the harvesting of aborted human organs and babies for monetary gain.  I would hope that even proponents of abortion would agree to that much.”
