Pro-Lifer Says Democrats Selectively Listen to Pope Francis, Ignore Opposition to Abortion

This week, Pope Francis has thrilled pro-life activists with countless pro-life statements before Congress and at different venues in the United States. Before Congress today, the pontiff said, “The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development.”

He added: “I am convinced that this way is the best, since every life is sacred, every human person is endowed with an inalienable dignity.”

He also mentioned that he is deeply concerned for the family, which he said is “threatened, perhaps as never before.” During the pope’s speech, members of Congress clapped and rose to their feet multiple times in agreement. However, Sen. James Inhofe (R- Oklahoma) is questioning Democrats who are rejoicing at the pope’s words even though they are radically pro-abortion. Additionally, the senator claims that Democrats are picking and choosing what they like about the pope’s positions.

He said, “A lot of the people who are just rejoicing in the pope taking political positions, most of them are liberal. And most liberals are going to be advocates of global warming. And yet, when you say to them are you pro-life? No? Are you being selective then?” Sen. Inhofe added, “Why are you chastising people who disagree with the position he takes, when he has a much stronger, more authentic position on pro-life. So it’s kind of pick and choose. That’s one of the strongest positions [Catholics] have.”

Sen. Inhofe also believes the pope won’t be able to change the minds of pro-abortion politicians. He said, “Most of my conversations have been with my real good friends in Oklahoma who happen to be Catholic, and they have not changed in their positions.”

As LifeNews previously reported, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, Pope Francis said the pro-life cause is the primary reason for his visit to the United States. He said, “I appreciate the unfailing commitment of the Church in America to the cause of life and that of the family, which is the primary reason for my present visit.”

Then he said the following to the nation’s bishops: “I encourage you, then, to CONFRONT the challenging issues of our time. Ever present within each of them is life as gift and responsibility. The future freedom and dignity of our societies depends on how we will face these challenges. The innocent victim of abortion, the children who die of hunger or from bombings, the immigrants who drown in search for a better tomorrow, the elderly or the sick who are considered a burden; the victims of terrorism, wars, violence, and drug trafficking, the environment devastated by man’s predatory relationship with nature — at stake in all of this is the GIFT OF GOD, of which we are noble stewards but not masters.”

Although it seems like President Obama has welcomed Pope Francis with open arms, he consistently goes against the Catholic Church’s core beliefs. In fact, earlier this month, the Obama Administration renewed their attempt to force the Catholic order to pay for abortion inducing drugs even though the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby and another company in their bid to stop the HHS mandate.

Ironically, at the White House yesterday President Obama told the Pope that he loves “religious liberty.” He said, “You remind us that people are only truly free when they can practice their faith freely.  Here in the United States, we cherish religious liberty.” Unfortunately, from the looks of it, President Obama picks and chooses what he like’s about the pontiff’s beliefs as well.
