In Washington D.C., pro-life activists blocked the site of a new Planned Parenthood facility being built directly next to a charter school. Live Action News reports that the pro-life group Abortion Free DC led pro-life activists in an event on September 21st that temporarily stopped construction workers from building the abortion facility. Leaders of the pro-life group include Rev. Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition, Mark Harrington of Created Equal and pro-life activist Lauren Handy.

On Facebook, Rev. Mahoney said, “Already a major victory! Before our sit-in at Planned Parenthood in DC, they have stopped all work using heavy equipment! Thank God!” Later a message appeared on the group’s events page that said, “A generation ago, civil rights activists gathered as a bold and public witness to stand against the injustice of racism and segregation. They risked arrest at lunch counters, on buses and in the public square for peacefully embracing the eternal principles of justice for all.”

The group continued, “Today, this generation, faces a similar challenge on the issue of abortion. How we can passively sit by while our brothers and sisters are being brutalized and women being diminished through the tragic act of violence?”

Additionally, Harrington from Created Equal said, “Politicians cannot do our work for us. It is incumbent on the American people to rise up and stop the killing.  Defeating Planned Parenthood will only happen when people begin to take ownership over their own communities. We are going to peacefully and prayerfully intervene to stop the expansion of Planned Parenthood in our nation’s capital.  Washington, DC is abortion free and we are going to keep it that way.”

As LifeNews previously reported, Planned Parenthood has indicated that they plan to open the new facility to replace the old 16th Street clinic, which has been the site of intense pro-life activity over the years. Unfortunately, the Catholic owed company Pizzano Contractors, Inc, is building the facility even though they claim they are a “family business”.  The owner of the company is Robert Pizzano, Jr. and he is a Catholic who graduated from a Catholic High School. He was also a member of the Catholic school’s Board of Governors and was honored by them for founding a charity in memory of his late son who had developmental disabilities.

At one time, Pizzano Contractors, Inc. listed the Diocese of Arlington on their partial client list; however, after finding out about Pizzano’s connection with Planned Parenthood, the diocese asked to be removed. In August, Live Action News reported that a worker from the construction company cursed at a pro-lifer who was praying in front of the abortion facility.

Lauren Hand explained, “I was kneeling and praying when the guy turned on the hose making the construction dust turn into mud. I told him I would not leave and continued to pray. It didn’t matter what they did to me. At first I was by myself and felt a little discouraged because the guy was cussing at me… And then another prayer warrior showed up and immediately knelt in the mud with me.”
