On Thursday, after 10 hours of testimony and debate, the Virginia Board of Health voted to rescind the abortion clinic regulations as called for by the General Assembly in 2011. Gov. McAuliffe had made the reversal of these regulations a primary objective of his time as Governor. After stacking the Board with like-minded individuals, He has accomplished just that!
The majority of the Board cooperated with the Governor’s effort to weaken the protective regulations. The final vote to rescind the clinic regulations was 9 to 6.
Several members of the Board worked for several hours to add amendments that would have maintained that some of the reasonable protections stay in place. All of those amendments were rejected.
Sadly, although there were well over 50 pro-life people in attendance, only one person was able to address the members of the Board during the limited one hour allotted for public testimony. Also addressing the Board to support the much needed regulations was Del. Kirk Cox, who expressed the desire of many in the Virginia General Assembly that the regulations be maintained. He passionately spoke to the responsibility of the Board to protect the women and unborn babies of Virginia over abortionists’ interests.
From this point it is obvious, once again, that elections have consequences! We must work hard to ensure that during this fall’s elections pro-lifers are elected to the House of Delegates and Virginia Senate!
The next step is to work even harder to pass laws that respect innocent human life. We must pass laws that can actually stop abortions. Laws like the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Dismemberment Abortion Ban will save lives in Virginia and across America!
