Hillary Clinton Calls Planned Parenthood Videos “Misleading,” But She’s Only Seen Excerpts

In a new interview over the weekend, abortion activist Hillary Clinton called the shocking Planned Parenthood expose’ videos showing it selling aborted babies and their body parts “misleading.” But she admits she’s only seem excerpts from them.

From the Washington Examiner on the new interview:

“These were misleadingly edited and intentionally taken out of context,” Clinton said during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “If we want to have a debate in this country on whether we should continue doing fetal research then it is not only Planned Parenthood that should be involved in that debate.”

Clinton’s position on the videos has differed throughout the summer. When the first videos were released by the anti-abortion activists Center for Medical Progress, she defended Planned Parenthood.

But in July, she said that she had seen pictures from the videos and found them “disturbing.”

Clinton also defended Planned Parenthood selling aborted babies and their body parts for research:

Clinton added that the tapes were misleadingly edited and taken out of context, repeating what Planned Parenthood has said. She said to shut down the government over funding for Planned Parenthood would be “the height of irresponsibility.”

On “Face the Nation,” Clinton said if the country wants to have a debate on whether to continue doing fetal research, then not only Planned Parenthood should be involved.

“All of the experts, all of the scientists, all of the research institutions, everybody who is looking for cures to Parkinson’s, for example, should be asked, ‘Should we continue this?'” Clinton said. “But so far as I am aware, what they [Planned Parenthood] did, despite the way it was portrayed is within the laws that were set up for this.”

Last week, Clinton dodged a question from Wolf Blitzer of CNN about whether she has seen the shocking Planned Parenthood expose’ videos or if Planned Parenthood broke the law by selling aborted babies and their body parts.

“Are you confident that Planned Parenthood, madame secretary, or any of its affiliated groups if you will haven’t violated any federal laws?” Blitzer asked.

Hillary dodged the question and responded:

“Well, Wolf, let me tell you what I know. And that is there is a willingness on the part of Planned Parenthood to answer questions. They have been doing so. Some people may not want to hear the answers, but they have certainly put those answers out there into the public arena.

And if the issue, the core issue that some on the stage last night or some in the Congress are trying to promote or trying to raise questions about, has to do with the kind of research that is done legally in the United States. Then that is an issue that goes far beyond any Planned Parenthood example.

So I think it’s important to sort out. There’s a lot of emotion. There’s a lot of accusations that are being hurled about. I think it’s important to sort out and try to actually figure out what is going on. If it’s the services they are trying to shut down, like providing family planning or breast cancer screenings, that is just wrong. And women deserve to be given support to get those services provided.

If they want to shut down the legal provision of abortion services, then they’ve got a bigger problem because obviously Planned Parenthood does not use federal dollars to do that. And if they are more focused on the research that is going on, then that’s a set of issues that certainly is not only about Planned Parenthood. So I would hope that the Republicans and particularly the Republicans in the House led by Speaker Boehner would not put our country and our economy in peril pursuing some kind of emotionally, politically charged partisan attack on Planned Parenthood to shut our government down.”

Last night’s Republican presidential debate didn’t touch on pro-life issues much, in part because most of the Republican candidates share a similar pro-life position opposing abortion and funding for Planned Parenthood. But, when it did, pro-life businesswoman Carly Fiorina had one of the most memorable lines of the night.

“I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes,” Fiorina said, referencing the 10 undercover videos that showed how Planned Parenthood sells aborted babies and their body parts.

She continued: “Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain. This is about the character of our nation, and if we will not stand up in and force President Obama to veto this bill, shame on us.”
