On September 21st, actor and director Nick Searcy will begin filming his feature film, Gosnell. The documentary is about late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell who was convicted on three counts of first-degree murder in 2013.

As LifeNews previously reported, Gosnell ran a “House of Horrors” in Philadelphia where minority women were maimed and their babies were butchered. His “clinic” was filled with bloody furniture, outdated equipment, and the body parts of babies that he slaughtered.

In an interview with World Magazine, Searcy said the film is not intended to promote a certain political agenda; rather it’s supposed to document the actual events that took place. He explained, “This movie is not about what I believe. It is not about what the filmmakers believe. It is about what happened in this case. I felt very strongly from the beginning that that’s what the movie has to be. I’m not interested in making a movie that preaches to a choir or that has a particular agenda or a point of view that it is trying to advance.”

He continued, “I’m trying to make a movie about an actual thing that actually happened, and make it as accurately as possible. The problem in this case is that nobody knows about it because the media refused to cover it because they were afraid it might support a pro-life agenda.”

Additionally, Searcy said the film will be presented like a courtroom drama. He said, “…It is probably going to be like a very good, two-hour special episode of Law and Order. It’s a crime drama… As much as we can do, as accurately as we can make it, it’s going to be about what actually happened in this case.”

“I’ve felt from the beginning that it was very important that we don’t make a movie here that is trying to tell people what to think about what happened. I think that that happens too often in Hollywood. Movies are made with such a distinct point of view that it becomes insulting, and I don’t want to insult the audience. What I want to do is tell them what happened in this case and let them make up their own minds,” Searcy concluded.

The Grand Jury report from Gosnell’s trial estimates that the abortionist delivered hundreds of babies alive and then had their spinal cords “snipped.” Indiana representative Marlin Stutzman described Gosnell’s facility before members of Congress. He said, “In that building—crawling with animals, reeking of urine, and filled with bloodstained furniture—Kermit Gosnell was running a slaughterhouse. On a regular basis, he used a pair of scissors to sever the spinal cords of helpless babies who were born alive during illegal, late-term abortions. The loss of these lives should scar the conscience of civilized people everywhere. This is not a discussion about abstract concepts like ‘choice,’ we are talking about brutal deaths of newborn children.”

In 2014, the screenwriter of Gosnell the Movie, Andrew Klavan, said Gosnell was the biggest serial killer in American history and he hopes the film exposes the people who allowed him to get away with his heinous crimes. He said, “Many crime writers, mystery story writers, they like to create great villains. Hannibal Lector, perfect example. I don’t care as much about the villains as I care about the people who let it happen. It’s the people around them and how they react. Are they heroes, are they cowards, are they people who turn their backs and say they didn’t see anything?”
