“I Don’t Know if I’m Pro-Choice Anymore,” Writer Says After Planned Parenthood Sells Aborted Babies

Although many abortion activists are defending Planned Parenthood despite revelations about their organ harvesting business, the five videos released by the Center for Medical Progress have caused some “pro-choice” people to pause and reconsider their opinions. In an article in The Daily Beast, Ruben Navarrette Jr. explains that he has supported abortion rights for 30 years but “this year might be different.”

He admits, “It’s jarring to see doctors acting as negotiators as they dicker over the price of a fetal liver, heart, or brain, and then talk about how they meticulously go to the trouble of not crushing the most valuable body parts. This practice is perfectly legal, and for some people, it is just a business. With millions of abortions each year in America, business is good.”

Then he goes on to explain that the way the Planned Parenthood officials talk about human remains makes him want to go “take a shower,” adding later, “make that a long, hot shower with lots of soap.” At one point in his article he even says he agrees with David Daleiden’s conclusions about the abortion company. Daleiden is the Founder of The Center for Medical Progress and the man behind the investigation exposing their lucrative business.

In July, Daleiden said, “Planned Parenthood’s system-wide conspiracy to evade the law and make money off of aborted fetal tissue is now undeniable. Anyone who watches these videos knows that Planned Parenthood is engaged in barbaric practices and human rights abuses that must end.”

Navarrette responds: “I agree with that assessment, and I’m pro-choice. At least I thought I was until recently. These days, each time, I express concern, outrage, disgust, or horror over another video—which should come with warnings that they may produce nightmares—some supporter of the organization responds by attacking me and insisting that I was never really pro-choice to begin with.”

As LifeNews previously reported, the expose videos show Planned Parenthood’s executives casually negotiating the price of fetal organs collected from abortions, discussing ways to obtain fully intact parts and explaining how their facilities avoid legal trouble. If that’s not bad enough, during some of the dealings the officials are drinking wine, munching on lunch and laughing about profiting from human remains.

For example, in the second video, Mary Gatter, the Medical director at Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley in California, says she’s not in it for the money but later tries to bump up the price for fetal organs. She says, “Let me just figure out what others are getting, and if this is in the ballpark, then it’s fine, if it’s still low, then we can bump it up. I want a Lamborghini.”

Regardless of your personal opinion on abortion, this is, as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal put it, absolutely disgusting. It is also incredibly difficult for those who are pro-abortion to defend their ideology that an unborn baby is not a baby when Planned Parenthood employees refer to their bodies as human cadavers; their “tissue” as fully intact organs; and describe the child’s parts they are dissecting and assessing for usefulness as, “Another boy!

Thankfully, there is one good thing coming from the sickening footage; those who have always been pro-abortion, like Navarrette, are questioning their beliefs.

Here’s more from Navarrette:

“…Lacking the ability to get pregnant, and thus spared what has been for women friends of mine the anguishing decision of whether to stay pregnant, I’ve remained on the sidelines and deferred to the other half of the population.

Over time, I made refinements—going along with waiting periods and parental notification laws at the state level, and coming out against the barbaric practice known as partial birth abortion.

As I’ve only realized lately, to be a man, and to declare yourself pro-choice, is to proclaim your neutrality. And, as I’ve only recently been willing to admit, even to myself, that’s another name for “wimping out.”

At least that’s how my wife sees it. She’s pro-life, and so she’s been tearing into me every time a new video is released. She’s not buying my argument that, as a man, I have to defer to women and trust them to make their own choices about what to do with their bodies. To her, that’s ridiculous—and cowardly.

“You can’t stand on the sidelines, especially now that you’ve seen these videos,” she told me recently. “That’s bullshit! These are babies that are being killed. Millions of them. And you need to use your voice to protect them. That’s what a man does. He protects children—his own children, and other children. That’s what it means to be a man.”

I didn’t like the scolding, but I needed to hear it. For those of us who are pro-choice, the Planned Parenthood videos are a game changer. As to whether that means I’ll change my view, I’m not sure. I’m on the bubble. Ask me in a few weeks, after the release of more videos.”
