Democrats Blocking Bill to De-fund Planned Parenthood Admit They Haven’t Seen Shocking Videos

Senate Democrats who voted yesterday to block a bill to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business have admitted they haven’t bothered to watch the shocking undercover videos showing top Planned Parenthood officials arranging for the sale of body parts from aborted babies. A 5th shocking video was released today.

The Senate voted 53-46 on the cloture motion — failing to get the 60 votes needed to stop the Democratic filibuster against the de-funding measure.

But multiple democrats admitted they have not even seen the videos that caused the stir leading to Senate Republicans putting forward the bill to de-fund Planned Parenthood.

After the vote, Senate Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, who voted against the bill, released a statement through her federal office in Washington, D.C. In her quote, Shaheen said the videos were “highly edited.”

However, John McCormack at the Weekly Standard caught up with Senator Jeanne Shaheen and directly asked her about the Planned Parenthood video tapes. “I have not seen them,” Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire told McCormack after the vote.

Shaheen is not the only senator voting against de-funding Planned Parenthood who admittedly hasn’t watched the videos. As McCormack reports:

“I have not seen them, no,” Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania told me last week.

“I’m sorry, what’s your name?” asked Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii in response to a simple yes-or-no question. “Can you call my comms director?”

As New York senator Chuck Schumer stepped into a senators-only elevator, I asked him the same yes-or-no question. “Shut the door,” Schumer told an aide.

Only one Democratic senator, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, told me that she had seen any of the videos. McCaskill agreed that the videos were disturbing, but she added that “that’s not the point. The point is to prevent abortions by making sure that women can get birth control.”

Derek Dufresne, spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, released the following statement:

“Granite Staters deserve senators in Washington who tell them the truth. While New Hampshire residents certainly understand they will not agree with their leaders all of the time, they rightfully expect that their elected officials will not mislead them either.”It is extremely troubling how Senator Jeanne Shaheen was caught blatantly misleading her constituents last evening. In one breath, she called the Planned Parenthood videos ‘highly edited.’ In another, she admitted she had never even watched them. How could Senator Shaheen make accusations about the authenticity of the videos when she also admits she has never seen them? Furthermore, how did she make a logical vote on Granite Staters’ behalf without even watching the videos that prompted the legislative initiative? We call on our senator to explain her doublespeak and apologize to her constituents for her actions immediately.”
