Ireland Abortion Activists Dare Police to Arrest Illegally Distributing Abortion Pills

In Ireland, a pro-abortion activist has told the Belfast Telegraph that she is willing to go to jail for acquiring illegal, dangerous abortion pills in the pro-life country. In fact, Goretti Horgan said that she would be “quite happy” if the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) arrested her for “procuring abortion medication.”

In a letter from 214 abortion supporters, Horgan and others basically dared police to arrest them because they want the Personal Public Service (PPS) to reevaluate their country’s abortion laws. Horgan explained, “We hope to get the PPS to look again at whether there really is a public interest in bringing charges like these, or else prosecute us all – don’t choose an isolated woman.”

Earlier this year, the debate over abortion pills re-emerged in Ireland after it was announced that a woman would stand trial for illegally acquiring abortion pills for her daughter. The group, Alliance for Choice, penned the letter to the PSNI and said: “We would actually be quite happy if they arrested us, because it would mean that that woman would not be on her own. We really feel she is a scapegoat. We just got such a shock when we saw the article, because in 2013, over 100 of us signed an open letter saying that we’d either taken the abortion pills or had helped somebody to get them, and police did not come near us.”

In response to the letter, the PSNI said, “Abortion is a very emotive issue and as police our role is to uphold the law. It would depend on the specific circumstances of an incident as to whether or not an offence has been committed.” Additionally, Detective Superintendent Andrea McMullan said in a statement that police received the letter and were “accessing its contents.”

As LifeNews previously reported, abortion activists plan to take their so-called abortion drone to Ireland to deliver abortion-inducing drugs to women. The group, Women on Waves, already flew the drone to Poland to symbolically kill unborn babies in the pro-life country. They said, “The Abortion drone will mark the different reality for Polish women to access to safe abortion services compared to other women in Europe. In almost all European countries abortion is legal, only in Poland, Ireland and Malta abortion is illegal and women’s rights are still violated.”

Although some argue that medication abortion is completely safe for women, research and case studies have proven otherwise. For example, in the United States, the FDA has documented 2,207 adverse events in the women who have had medical abortions, including 14 deaths, 612 hospitalizations, 339 cases where blood loss was so great the woman needed a transfusion, 256 infections and 58 ectopic pregnancies.  Of the women who’ve died due to medication abortion, some suffered bacterial infections, hemorrhaging to death, ruptured ectopic pregnancy and massive heart attacks.

Pro-life physician, Dr. Mary Davenport, described how the two parts of the abortion pill cause the abortion and often hurt women in the process.

She said, “Medical [chemical] abortion is actually performed in early pregnancy with TWO pills, the first – RU-486 – mifepristone or Mifeprex, antagonizes the hormone progesterone, which is necessary for pregnancy. This cuts off the nutritional supply to the pregnancy, ending in the unborn baby’s death. One or two days later the woman takes a second pill, misoprostol or Cytotec, which causes uterine contractions and expels the pregnancy. Medical abortion is frequently a horrible experience for the women, lasting up to 2-4 weeks with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hemorrhage, and intense pain.”
