Ever since the news broke that Planned Parenthood sells aborted babies’ body parts and performs illegal procedures to ensure high-quality “tissue”, nearly every Republican candidate for president has announced their outrage and has called on Congress to defund the abortion giant.
For example, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said, “Today’s news regarding allegations that Planned Parenthood is possibly selling the body parts of the babies it has aborted is sickening. There is no place for taxpayer funding of organizations that profit from taking away innocent life, much less profiting off the bodies of the lives they have stolen. Congress should immediately begin an investigation of Planned Parenthood’s activities regarding the sale and transfer of aborted body parts, including who is obtaining them and what they are being used for.”
Other candidates running for president, such as Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, Rand Paul, Scott Walker, Dr. Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and Bobby Jindal echoed similar sentiment and disgust for the new video exposing Planned Parenthood’s negotiations with Stem Express.
However, The Washington Free Beacon reports that they reached out to George Pataki, the former governor of New York, and he too agreed that Planned Parenthood shouldn’t receive any more federal funding. His spokesman, David Catalfamo, said, “The video is abhorrent and Governor Pataki would support ending federal funding for Planned Parenthood.” This is surprising because Pataki is pro-abortion and has even worked against pro-life measures in the past.
In a campaign video he said, “Defeating Islamic terror, shrinking government and growing the economy. These are the issues that matter most. Instead, we’re debating social issues like abortion and gay rights. They’re a distraction and will only help elect Hillary. After eight years of Obama-style socialism, we need to shrink government – not let big government tells us how to live our lives.”
Unfortunately, as the governor of New York, Pataki also vetoed a bill that would allow pro-life groups to have specialized license plates, voted for millions of dollars to go toward embryonic stem cell research and signed legislation that would require religious hospitals to distribute the morning after pill. Although his past record on life isn’t good, at least he sees Planned Parenthood for what they really are— a “non-profit” that makes millions on abortions and then sells their body parts to the highest bidder.
