Planned Parenthood Says Selling Body Parts From Aborted Babies is a “Humanitarian Undertaking”

It has been a difficult few days for Planned Parenthood because they’re finding out just how difficult it is to convince the American people that they in fact do not sell aborted babies’ body parts or cater their procedures to obtain “salable tissue”.

As LifeNews previously reported, a shocking video released yesterday by the Center for Medical Progress showed Planned Parenthood’s Medical Director, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, discussing their negotiations with a business called Stem Express that purchases aborted babies’ body parts for experimentation.

To make matters worse for the abortion giant, their explanation for the video hasn’t been too well received by social media or even the press. Initially, they came out in a media release explaining that the body “tissue” collected from aborted babies is donated to scientific research and that they make zero profits off those negotiations.

They wrote, “In health care, patients sometimes want to donate tissue to scientific research that can help lead to medical breakthroughs, treatments and cures for serious diseases. Women at Planned Parenthood who have abortions are no different. At several of our health centers, we help patients who want to donate tissue for scientific research, and we do this just like every other high-quality health care provider does — with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards. There is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or Planned Parenthood. In some instances, actual costs, such as the cost to transport tissue to leading research centers, are reimbursed, which is standard across the medical field.”

Then, most recently, their public relations firm, Camino Public Relations, said that their efforts are actually a “humanitarian undertaking.” In documents the firm explains, “Aborted pregnancy tissue donation and research are humanitarian undertakings that hold the potential to cure disease, save lives, and ameliorate suffering.”

Well that’s a fascinating spin considering the way Dr. Nucatola described how the abortionists obtain the “tissue.” She said, “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”

“And with the calvarium, in general, some people will actually try to change the presentation so that it’s not vertex,” she continues. “So if you do it starting from the breech presentation, there’s dilation that happens as the case goes on, and often, the last step, you can evacuate an intact calvarium at the end.”

Their definition of “humanitarian” must be very different than most people because it sounds like what the doctor is describing is torture. Additionally, what Dr. Nucatola is saying is that their doctors perform illegal partial-birth abortion procedures in order to get the results they need for harvesting.

In fact, when asked if they change their normal procedures to get fetal organs (which is also illegal) and if it makes a difference, she says, “It makes a huge difference. I’d say a lot of people want liver. And for that reason, most providers will do this case under ultrasound guidance, so they’ll know where they’re putting their forceps. The kind of rate-limiting step of the procedure is calvarium. Calvarium—the head—is basically the biggest part.”

Even a pro-abortion blogger from The Guardian acknowledged the gruesome reality of what Planned Parenthood does on a daily basis and didn’t try to spin it to seem pretty.

Jessica Valenti writes in her article, “Abortion is a Medical Procedure. The Reality of Those Often Isn’t Pleasant”, “For most people, it is probably difficult to watch Nucatola discuss how second-trimester abortions are performed while eating a salad and downing red wine – though, I also imagine many of us might get a bit queasy hearing about most medical procedures over the dinner table. But even as a person who has had two abortions, I cringed while listening to her talk about taking care during terminations to remove the fetus in such a way that vital organs and tissue are saved. This is not easy stuff to go through; it is not easy to hear about.”

Of course, she goes on to justify Planned Parenthood’s business but at least she didn’t try to deny how incredible disturbing the video was to the American people.
