On June 17th, Supermodel Emily Ratajkowski was criticized by National Right to Life (NRL) after announcing her partnership with Planned Parenthood. According to The Blaze, NRL President, Carol, Tobias, said, “It’s sad, but Emily Ratajkowski’s support for Planned Parenthood is just another in a long line of men and women who have used their fame and notoriety to gloss over the reality that Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest provider of abortion.”

Ratajkowski is a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model who started her career in music videos but quickly rose to fame and pursued modeling full time. Now she’s appeared in a few films, including Gone Girl and will be in the upcoming movie with Zac Efron, We Are Your Friends.  In an interview with Refinery29, Ratajkowski also expressed interest in doing more work with Planned Parenthood in the future.

Unfortunately, Ratajkowski calls the organization “near and dear to her heart” because they provide women access to birth control. However, in 2014, the organization actually said they opposed selling birth control over the counter. The Washington Examiner reported: “Planned Parenthood opposes over-the-counter contraception, pushing back against a popular Republican argument being used in many Senate races this year. The nonprofit’s lobbying arm, which advocates for women’s reproductive health issues, argued that calls for allowing birth control pills to be sold without a prescription are “empty gestures.”

Additionally, over the past three reported years (2011-2013), Planned Parenthood has performed nearly one million abortions (988,783). In 2013, abortions made up 94% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services, while prenatal care and adoption referrals accounted for only 5% (18,684). Planned Parenthood’s cancer prevention services also went down 17% over one year, and contraceptive services dropped by 4%. Furthermore, for every adoption referral the “non-profit” hands out, they perform 174 abortions.

These numbers reveal that Planned Parenthood’s primary business is abortion, while their other services take the backseat. Thankfully, people took to social media to express their disappointment in Ratajkowski’s decision to support Planned Parenthood.

One wrote, “I am against abortion aka murder clinics. Sorry- have to unfriend you now,” and another said, “Planned Parenthood has killed more than 1 million babies in abortions in the last 3 years. #Fail,”
