Protest Details:

Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST

Date: Thursday, May 21

Location: 201 E Ben White Blvd, Austin, TX 78704

The Houston Planned Parenthood, where the recent medical emergencies took place, is located an area that targets poor urban women of color.

“There is an old adage that says actions speak louder than words. After hospitalizing four women in less than 30 days, Planned Parenthood can no longer pretend to care about women,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Planned Parenthood clinics are not equipped to cope with even the most common abortion complications and must call for emergency assistance and transport when abortions go wrong. And they appear to go wrong all too often at the Houston Planned Parenthood, where unfortunately Black and Hispanic women are bearing the brunt of the abuse.”

According to the 911 records, Planned Parenthood’s Director of Nursing, Margo Trentwood, placed a call to 911 on January 31 at 12:43 p.m. requesting a medical transport for a 19-year old patient who was experiencing vaginal bleeding and other unspecified complications after a “medical procedure.” An ambulance transported the woman to a nearby hospital.

As previously reported by Operation Rescue, on February 6, 2015, at 2:20 p.m. a Planned Parenthood employee who identified herself as Cecelia, requested an emergency transport for a patient suffering a possible uterine perforation. She described the woman as “awake and alert.”

A perforation is when the cannula, a plastic tube used to suction out the aborted baby body parts, or some other instrument is pushed through the soft wall of the uterus into the abdominal cavity. This can cause hemorrhaging and infection if not promptly treated, and can sometimes cause damage to the bladder, colon, intestines, or other internal organs and structures.

An unusual call to 911 was placed on February 25, 2015 at 10:29 a.m. The Planned Parenthood caller hung up, then when 911 called back, the dispatcher was placed on hold. Finally, an employee that identified herself as Nora Harper, told the dispatcher that she had a patient suffering from vaginal bleeding who required emergency transport to the hospital.

The following day, on February 26, 2015, another call was placed to 911 at 4:26 p.m. A Planned Parenthood employee identified as Nadia called for an emergency transport of a patient suffering a possible ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

A ruptured ectopic pregnancy can occur when an abortionist fails to confirm that the pregnancy is in the uterus and gives either a surgical or medication abortion. In those cases, the pregnancy continues to grow in the fallopian tube, which cannot expand enough to support a pregnancy. Once the baby gets too big, the fallopian tube painfully ruptures, creating a life-threatening medical emergency.

For example, on August 20, 2010, another Planned Parenthood abortionist Aqua Don Umoren, conducted a suction abortion on Roberta Clark at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Birmingham, Alabama. Umoren insisted the pregnancy was in the uterus, however, the patient was actually experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. She received the abortion and was set home thinking everything was fine, but continued to suffer nausea and lower-quadrant abdominal pain. He later reported to an emergency room and was forced to undergo emergency surgery to remove a 13-week pregnancy and her right fallopian tube. She sued Umoren and Planned Parenthood for malpractice.

It is not known if the Houston Planned Parenthood patient experienced a similar situation during the February 26 emergency, but the possibility does exists.

Abortionists at the Houston Planned Parenthood include Ann Irene Schutt-Aine, Paul Martin Fine, and Soren John Vindekilde.

Planned Parenthood in Houston has a long history of injuring women, including the following examples.

On August 23, 2012, 911 records show that a patient hemorrhaged after abortion at Planned Parenthood in Houston.

During a 911 call placed on December, 14, 2013, from the towering Houston Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, the caller is heard using medical abbreviations and “shorthand” terminology to conceal the fact that an abortion 33-year old patient was suffering uncontrolled bleeding and heavy blood loss.

But the tactic backfired and served only to confuse the dispatcher and delay emergency care to the hemorrhaging abortion patient, who was eventually transported to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston.

In fact, Operation Rescue determined from data found in court records that as many as 1,000 women are hospitalized in Texas each year due to abortion complications.

While all these incidents took place at the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Houston, Operation Rescue has documented dozens of similar emergencies at Planned Parenthood clinics across America.

In 2015 alone, Operation Rescue has documented 14 abortion-related medical emergencies at Planned Parenthood facilities in eight states, including California, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, and Washington.

“Planned Parenthood poses a particular danger to poor women of color, who they aggressively target for abortions. If ‘Black Lives Matter’ to Planned Parenthood, they would stop marketing abortions to Blacks and other minority women,” said Newman.
