In Britain, an abortionist who confessed to offering illegal sex-selection abortions will appear before the General Medical Counsel (GMC) and could have his license revoked. In 2012, Dr. Palaniappan Rajmohan was filmed offering “gender-abortions” during an undercover investigation by The Telegraph.

During the investigation, undercover reporters accompanied pregnant women to nine different abortion facilities in the country, seeking abortionists who would perform the illegal procedure. One of the women who participated in the investigation was 12-weeks pregnancy and had an appointment with Dr. Rajmoham at his facility in Edgbaston, Birmingham. She said she wanted the abortion because her partner told her he didn’t want a have girl. The abortionist asked, “Is that the reason? That’s not fair. It’s like female infanticide isn’t it?”

Unbelievably, Dr. Rajmoham still offered to do the abortion and when the woman asked if he could put down a different reason than sex selection for the procedure he said, “That’s right, yeah, because it’s not a good reason anytime … I’ll put too young for pregnancy, yeah?” Now Dr. Rajmohan has been banned from performing or authorizing any abortions.

As LifeNews previously reported, in 2014, conservative MP Fiona Bruce led the charge to declare the practice of sex-selection abortion illegal; however, it was not a formal motion but served more as a signal that gender abortions were unacceptable in the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, the motion received overwhelming support across party lines with a vote of 181-1.

Bruce told the Telegraph, “The time has come to face up to the truth: sex-selective abortion is a reality in the UK – We can no longer ignore it. I do not pretend that my amendment can solve the problem of son-preference all on its own, but I know that it is a big step in the right direction.”

She added, “It is my hope that my colleagues in the Commons will agree that urgent action needs to be taken and vote in favor of my Amendment when the time comes.” As of right now, more than 70 members of the Parliament have put their names on the amendment.

In the United Kingdom, four out of five adults support the prosecution of doctors who authorize gender-abortion; and 80% of British adults agreed that ‘where it can be proved that an abortion was authorized on grounds of the baby’s gender, the doctor authorizing that abortion should be prosecuted.’

Unfortunately, last year the GMC dropped a case concerning another abortionist performing illegal sex-selection abortions in the United Kingdom. Abortionist Prabha Sivaraman was accused of conspiracy and was recorded telling a woman: “I don’t ask questions. If you want a termination, you want a termination.”
