Wendy Davis Doubles Down on Attacking Greg Abbott for Being Paralyzed, Uses Disabled as Props

Wendy Davis learned nothing from the overwhelming backlash she faced from both the left and the right over her wheelchair ad last week.

In what may have been one of the most slimy campaign ads ever to air, Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis attacked pro-life candidate Greg Abbott by running an ad with an empty wheelchair that takes a shot at Abbott, who is confined to one.

GregAbbott8Davis is the pro-abortion candidate for governor in Texas whose sole claim to fame is having filibustered against a bill to ban late-term abortions. Not content to speak out against protecting unborn babies after viability, the Davis campaign mocked her pro-life opponent, Greg Abbott, for being paralyzed.

Now, Davis is defending the ad:

Davis held a press conference on Monday, flanked by several people in wheelchairs. She defended her controversial ad, calling Mr. Abbott a hypocrite.

“After receiving justice in the form of millions of dollars from a lawsuit, Greg Abbott has built a career kicking the ladder down behind him and denying to others the very same justice that he both deserved and received,” the Texas state senator said at her Fort Worth field office, Politico reported. “We need to call this what it is — hypocrisy. But there is example after example of it, harming the people that he is supposed to be fighting for.”

Davis‘ top adviser also defended the ad, arguing that Mr. Abbott had “prominently featured himself in the wheelchair in his ads.”

“This ad is not about Greg Abbott in a wheelchair,” Davis‘ pollster Joel Benenson said Sunday, Politico reported. “This ad is about Greg Abbott’s behavior and action with other victims after he had his opportunity and rightly sought justice and received a substantial amount of money.”

Abbott spokeswoman Amelia Chasse told The Texas Tribune, “No amount of desperate spin can rescue Sen. Davis from the rightful criticism she has received over her offensive decision to air this spot.”

But Katie Pavlich at TownHall thinks Davis is using the disabled as props:

After extensive backlash and outrage by the left and the right over the weekend, including the far-left media outlet Mother Jones, Team Wendy is digging deeper and doubling down with human props.

Absolutely shameless. I for one am looking forward to watching Davis lose on election day.
