A pro-life rally taking place Friday night in Dublin will support the premature baby who was victimized by Ireland’s law allowing some abortions.

The Pro Life Campaign has strongly criticised the statements from a number of Labour Party TDs demanding wider access to abortion and for Article 40.3.3 of the Constitution to be deleted. The Labour Party calls follow weekend media reports alleging that a pregnant woman who claimed she was suicidal was denied an abortion under the 2013 abortion act. It is reported that the woman subsequently agreed to a Caesarean section and the baby was delivered between 23 and 25 weeks gestation.

ireland38As the pro-life group has said, “This is a tragic story for both mother and baby. There is a premature baby clinging to life in a Dublin Hospital as a direct result of last year’s abortion legislation and all some Labour TDs can do is exploit the situation to push for more abortion. It is obscene the way they are using this case to whip up support for their agenda.”

Now, Pro Life Campaign will hold a rally to support the baby affected by the law.

“The unseemly clamour this week for more abortion, while a baby clings to life in an Irish hospital, has appalled many people.  It is clear that the mother and the baby at the centre of this tragic case should have been better cared for,” says Cora Sherlock, the campaign’s spokeswoman. “What happened exposes the deep-seated flaws in last year’s abortion legislation.  We need at this time to come together to express our solidarity with the baby and our concern for his mother.  We also need to highlight how the tragedy is being manipulated by the pro-abortion side to push for more abortion.”

The Pro Life Campaign has organised a short vigil to take place outside Dáil Éireann this Friday evening, 22nd August from 7.30 – 8.15pm.

“Other events will be taking place over the coming days.  It is important to maintain a strong ongoing presence at this time,” Sherlock says. “Hope to see you this Friday.  Please spread the word.”
