Tennesseans will be asked to vote in 2014 on an amendment to the Tennessee Constitution which would give the Volunteer State a chance to pass important pro-life legislation saving babies from abortion.

Amendment 1 would overturns a radical 2000 pro-abortion decision by the Tennessee Supreme Court and restores to the people of Tennessee the right to determine state laws and policies on matters affecting human life. The decision essentially said Tennessee has a virtually unlimited right to abortion even grater than Roe v. Wade and would prevent any pro-life legislation like the kind passed in surrounding states that has dropped abortions to historic lows and closed abortion clinics.

tennessee4However, the Planned Parenthood abortion business and the ACLU are bankrolling a campaign to defeat Amendment 1.

Brian Harris, President of Tennessee Right to Life, tells LifeNews what’s going on:

“The abortion industry from across the country is funding our opposition (94% of their funds are coming in from the ACLU and Planned Parenthood abortion facilities!)  That’s $339,500 to protect their bloody industry from regulation in Tennessee and continuing as an abortion destination for women and girls from other states,” he said. “When they place their attack ads, money will be no object and telling the truth will be no obstacle. They have a budget of $4 million to defeat pro-life Amendment 1. With a budget like that, they will be on the attack 24/100 … twenty-four hours a day for the next one hundred days.”
Harris says his group is countering the well-funded pro-abortion campaign with a strong pro-life grassroots campaign.

Our Yes on 1 campaign is strong with county teams in 75 of Tennessee’s 95 counties, positive and professional media ads produced and ready to air, and a strong and experienced group of leaders lending their time to ensure victory on November 4,” he said.

Here’s some of the funding that has come into Tennessee from the pro-abortion side from out of state:

$25,000 – Planned Parenthood of Orange County, California

$35,000 – A.C.L.U. New York, New York

$50,000 – Planned Parenthood of Seattle

$5,000 – Planned Parenthood of Kansas

$10,000 – Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts
