Liberty Counsel Action has arranged a series of meetings for Justina Pelletier and her family on Capitol Hill. The Connecticut teenager appeared before the Republican Study Committee today and will meet with more lawmakers tomorrow to raise awareness and support for “Justina’s Law.”

Introduced last month, H.R. 4989 would ban federal funding for medical experimentation on wards of the state. “Justina’s Law” is intended to stop children from becoming human guinea pigs. Please see my important update about the Pelletier family’s visit and how you can take action to protect America’s children.

justinapelletier25Liberty Counsel Action is proud to support “Justina’s Law,” a bipartisan bill that prohibits federal tax dollars from being used for medical and psychological experimentation on wards of any state.

“Justina’s Law” is an important call for a federal legislative response to the case of Justina Pelletier, the teenager who was wrongfully kidnapped, imprisoned and subjected to psychological treatments that led to a serious decline in her health and wellbeing.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) joined with Reps. Karen Bass (D-CA), Tom Marino (R-PA), and Jim McDermott (D-WA) to introduce “Justina’s Law” (H.R. 4989) last month in response to Justina’s now well-documented case.

Mark Trammell, our Washington D.C. liaison and director of public policy, said after his meeting with congressional leaders and staff:

“The purpose of ‘Justina’s Law’ is to protect children, plain and simple. As evidenced by the bill’s bipartisan support, it’s not about partisan politics; it’s about advocating for the health and safety of children. It is irresponsible and inexcusable to subject foster children, or any child who is a ward of the state, to medical research that presents a greater than minimal risk of harm to the child with no prospect of direct benefit. These are children, made in the image of God. They deserve to be treated that way, not like human lab rats.”

Earlier today, Justina, her parents and her sister met with congressional leaders and appeared before the Republican Study Committee on Capitol Hill to raise awareness of “Justina’s Law” and, hopefully, generate support for its passage. But we need your help, too!

With Justina and her family on Capitol Hill TODAY, there has never been a better time to impact this important issue. Take action now by scheduling your “Pass Justina’s Law!” faxes for immediate delivery to key lawmakers in Washington, D.C. Go here now to send your personal message to House and Senate leaders demanding passage of H.R. 4989: www.lcaction.cc/1686/offer.asp

If you’re outraged, as we are, by what the state of Massachusetts and Boston Children’s Hospital put the Pelletier family through, take immediate action to make sure it can’t happen again!

Join us in calling on lawmakers in both the House and Senate to pass this bipartisan legislation without delay. “Justina’s Law” is an important first step in advocating for the health and safety of America’s children.
