Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee has nominated his director of administration Richard Licht as a superior court judge. In pro-life circles, Licht is better known as the NARAL national chairman.

Barth Bracy, the director of Rhode Island Right to Life, says his group plans to actively oppose the Licht nomination.

richardlicht“Rhode Island Right to Life opposes this nomination and plans to testify in opposition at his confirmation hearings,’ he told LifeNews. “We spoke against his confirmation as director of administration raising concerns of conflict of interest, specifically, that his pro-abortion extremism would affect the administration’s actions regarding the implementation of Obamacare in Rhode Island.”

In fact, during the Chafeee administration, the Obamacare law has been used as a vehicle to force state residents to pay for abortions.

“Licht and Chafee are responsible for bypassing the legislature in creating the Rhode Island Obamacare exchange, resulting in our lawsuit with over 1/3 of the Assembly as co-plaintiffs because they opposed the fact that the RI Senate had attached Rhode Island’s abortion-funding prohibitions to the massive new program,” Bracy said. “They are also responsible for excluding from HealthSource RI any plans that exclude coverage for elective abortion. It is likely that, because of their actions, RI may soon face a federal lawsuit similar to the one my wife and I filed in Connecticut.”
