Appearing at the CPAC conference today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie restated his pro-life views and said that Republicans should not apologize for having a pro-life position on abortion because they are more tolerant than Democrats.

“Twice, for the first time since Roe, New Jersey has elected a pro-life governor,” Christie said, referring to himself — adding that “every life is precious.”

chrischristie3Christie challenged Democrats on abortion, saying they never allow pro-life advocates to address their national convention while Republicans, even though they have a strongly pro-life platform, allow pro-abortion Republicans a chance to air their minority views. He named pro-abortion Republicans like Tom Ridge who were given an opportunity to address the national convention and contrasted that with the fact that Democrats haven’t allowed any pro-life speakers at their convention, including shutting out pro-life Pennsylvania Governor Bob Casey in the Bill Clinton era.

“Tell me the last pro-life Democrat who was allowed to speak at a convention… they’re the party of intolerance not us,” he said.

Christie also challenged people to be pro-life both before and after birth.

“We need to be pro-life throughout their entire lives, not just parts,” he said. “We need to be pro life in all aspects of life. We need to be pro-life when they leave the womb as well.”

“We don’t get to govern if we don’t win… Let’s come out of this conference resolved to win elections again,” he concluded. “We don’t get to govern if we don’t win.”
