A pregnant woman was killed today by a snowplow that was clearing a parking lot after the several inches of snow that fell in Brooklyn, NY. The deadly mishap occurred in front of 6301 Eighth Ave as the victim was struck by a private plow that was clearing snow from the parking lot of the Fei Long Market.
The 36-year-old victim’s baby was alive but in critical condition at Maimonides Medical Center. NBC indicates doctors were able to save the unborn child, though tragically Lin died:
Lin died at the hospital, but doctors performed a cesarean section and were able to deliver her 6-pound, 6-ounce baby boy, who was nearly full term, the hospital said.
The baby was in critical condition in the neonatal intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said, and a family member was present with him but has declined to talk to the media.
A friend of Lin’s choked up as she spoke about her.
“She’s a good mommy,” said Songqing Huang. “My good friend too.”
The plow was privately owned and was being driven by a 42-year-old man.
