Country music singer Gretchen Wilson is performing at SeaWorld and animal rights activists are giving her grief on twitter for the upcoming performance, saying she is somehow contributing to the animal entertainment arena’s alleged mistreatment of animals.

After taking shots on Twitter, Wilson fired back, saying, “I did my research…can’t wait to see my FANS on Saturday! Wouldn’t it be nice if this much effort could go into saving unborn babies?”

There were several angry responses on Twitter, with one person tweeting, “Tell me, how do you do research with your head up your a–?” and another tweet, “Foul odor, That’s the smell of my Gretchen Wilson Cd’s being burned in the fireplace.”

The furor apparently arose because of a documentary movie called “Blackfish” about Tilikum, an Orca whale that killed a trainer at SeaWorld. The movie focuses on the alleged cruelty of keeping whales in captivity.

Due to the controversy that “Blackfish” has caused, several country stars pulled out of the SeaWorld event, including Trace Adkins, Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride.

Gretchen Wilson was added to the concert’s roster after the other artists backed out; but she wasn’t backing down from the controversy.
